Keyshawn Davis Eyeing Welterweight Move – ‘I Got The Size And Strength’

Keyshawn Davis says he is ready to fight at welterweight but still has some goals to achieve at lightweight.
Davis will face Denys Berinchyk for the WBO Lightweight Title next. It is his first world title opportunity as he seeks to extend his record to 13-0. He enters the fight with a second-round knockout win over Gustavo Lemos. In his post-fight comments, he called out Gervonta Davis. Tank holds the WBA Lightweight Title. But Tank will fight Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1 next, ruling out that fight.
However, Keyshawn says his goal is to unify, meaning Tank is likely to be a target. Keyshawn has ruled out a fight with the WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson. They are very close friends. He has also ruled out a fight with Andy Cruz. The latter has beaten Keyshawn numerous times in the amateurs. But he is not well-known in the pro ranks, making it a risky fight. Cruz also does not offer Keyshawn any belts, meaning that there is no incentive to face him.
Keyshawn revealed that he currently weighs 144 pounds, meaning he is even bigger than a junior welterweight. He has big fights at 140 and 147 pounds. He could take on big names such as Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and Ryan Garcia. At 147 pounds, he has the opportunity to face Jaron Ennis, Mario Barrios, and Eimantas Stanionis. That has given him the luxury of various options. But for now, he is focused on beating his next opponent.
Keyshawn Reacts
“I don’t have to stay at 135. I’m bigger than Shakur. Shakur probably peeks at 135. My peak is at 147. This is just the beginning. 135 is just the beginning. There are fights out there. I don’t have to fight Shakur, but I would love to unify after I beat Berinchyk with one of the champions. We’ll see. I want to fight. I’m the young gunner.
“I want to fight everybody [except Andy Cruz]. After I get my belt, of course, I want to unify with one of the champions, except for Stevenson. “I’m not going to be at 135 for too much longer. As long as I want to be here. I weigh 144 right now. I’m not really a 140-pounder, for real, but I got the size and strength to do that. I Can Fight At 147 Now,” Keyshawn said
The problem Keyshawn faces is that he is seen as a risky fighter. There is a danger in other boxers facing him since he only has 12 pro fights. But Keyshawn is moving up the ranks quickly, having been very active. He has boxed three times in 2023 and 2024. He already has a fight with Berinchyk in February. If he can secure a world title, fighters may risk facing him, knowing there is a belt on the line. But first, he has to get past Berinchyk.
