Keyshawn Davis Confident Of Beating WBO Champ Berinchyk

Keyshawn Davis is confident he will deliver against WBO Lightweight Champion Denys Berinchyk

Davis faces the champion for the WBO belt this weekend in his first title fight on February 14. He arrives into the fight full of confidence. He knocked out Gustavo Lemos in the second round to take his record to 12-0. 8 of those wins are by knockout. The victory boosted Davis’ credentials since Lemos had gone the distance with Richardson Hitchens, the IBF Junior Welterweight Champion. Keyshawn has spoken about his desire to fight higher up the weight classes, meaning it is vital that he secures a win against Berinchyk first.

Keyshawn’s Mindset

Berinchyk secured the vacant belt with a win against Emanuel Navarrete. The latter moved up from 130 pounds but came up short in a split decision. Berinchyk is undefeated with a 19-0 record. Nine of those victories were by knockout. He has been in the ring with top names such as Navarrete. But Keyshawn is a much bigger man, making this arguably his toughest test. Davis was confident about his chances of securing a victory come fight night.

“I feel super strong. I feel motivated. [And] I feel locked in. Nothing can steer me away from my goal of becoming a world champion on February 14. I feel great, and I’m ready to put on a show. I can only think about my world title. But depending on how crazy I knock Berinchyk out, I’m going to be one of those big names that people are going to want to get in the ring with. I’d be putting myself down if I talk about fighting ‘big names’ because I can become one of those big names on February 14,” Keyshawn said

What’s Next?

A win opens up doors for major fights. He has called out Gervonta Davis, the WBA Lightweight Champion, previously. Tank faces Lamont Roach Jr. next on March 1. Davis has said he will retire this year after three fights. A win over Roach could lead to a unification with Keyshawn. The latter does not want to box the WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson since they are friends. Meanwhile, Tank appears reluctant to fight Shakur. Alternatively, Keyshawn could move up to 140 to target the champions in that weight class. There is also the possibility of moving up to 147, as Keyshawn feels he is big enough for that weight class.

“I don’t have to fight Shakur, but I would love to unify after I beat Berinchyk with one of the champions. We’ll see. I want to fight. I’m the young gunner. I want to fight everybody [except Andy Cruz].I Can Fight At 147 Now. After I get my belt, of course, I want to unify with one of the champions, except for Stevenson. I’m not going to be at 135 for too much longer. As long as I want to be here. I weight 144 right now. I’m not really a 140-pounder, for real, but I got the size and strength to do that. I Can Fight At 147 Now,” Keyshawn added
