Kambosos And Wyllie Ready For Battle After Making Weight

George Kambosos Jr. and Jake Wyllie made the junior welterweight limit for their domestic Australian clash this weekend.
Kambosos made his Matchroom Boxing debut against a last-minute opponent after Daud Yordan pulled out due to medical reasons. It is his first fight at the weight class, having lost to Vasiliy Lomachenko for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title in the fight before. It was the third defeat from his previous four fights. Kambosos is targeting fights against Teomfio Lopez, Richardson Hitchins and Liam Paro, which is why he cannot slip up here. Wyllie is a knockout artist with a 16-1-0 record. He has stopped 15 opponents as he faces the biggest fight of his career. And with nothing to lose, the pressure is all on Kambosos. Kambosos weighed 139.3 pounds while Wyllie hit the scales at 139.5 pounds.
Pre-Fight
“I ain’t losing to no Jake Wiley. Get it this way: You’ve gotta be fucked up if you think I’m going to lose to Jake Wiley, simple as that. I respect the kid. I don’t have any bad blood. I’m not gonna sit here and say anything bad about him. But when you deep dive on the guys he’s knocked out, they’re all plums,” Kambosos
“When I got the call on Sunday night from my manager Steve Deller I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face and it was just a straight yes. Of course I’ll take this fight. Mate, I’ve got the excitement. I’ve watched George for many years and I really believe I’ve got what it takes to beat him. So when that call came through I was just so happy and joyful.
“A win here changes my life. I’m fit, I’m ready. I was due to fight in three weeks as it was so I’m not jumping off the couch here. We had tickets booked to come to this fight and we booked them up in the grandstands. I’ll be asking Eddie [Hearn], I want my $50 back.
“It’s very exciting for me to be in there with someone with the magnitude of George Kambosos Jr and what he has done for Australian boxing. I was there for the first [Devin] Haney fight and it was great. He’s sold out at Marvel Arena and I’ve always thought he’s so beatable though. He’s so beatable and I think that he’s been in there with, yes, very good, sharp, slick boxers but I don’t think he’s been in there with someone that’s hard and tough and can punch hard. That’s what I’m willing to bring to this fight,” Wyllie
