Joshua Will Retire From Boxing Within Two Years – ‘Ducked No One’
Anthony Joshua has revealed he has a maximum of two more years left in the sport.
The Brit has been a Unified Heavyweight Champion on two occasions. But his aspirations of becoming an Undisputed Heavyweight Champion have yet to happen. The Brit was in talks to face Deontay Wilder in 2018 for all the belts. However, talks broke down as both men would lose their belts.
Wilder lost his WBC belt to Tyson Fury. Meanwhile, Joshua lost the belts to Andy Ruiz Jr, then Oleksandr Usyk. And yet, Joshua is in the conversation for a title shot once again. Since teaming up with Ben Davidson, the Brit has looked a lot sharper. He stopped Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou in his last two fights.
Reports also indicate he could face the winner of Fury-Usyk or secure a title shot between the winner of Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois, who will fight for the IBF Interim Heavyweight title. That fight could end up being for the full IBF title if the winner of Fury-Usyk is stripped. Given that Joshua is now at the tail-end of his career, he has mapped out his exit from the sport.
Joshua Reacts
“I’ve always said 35 – I’m 35 in October. I’m thinking another two years or so if my body holds out,” Joshua stated
That leaves fans with little time to see a British domestic clash with Tyson Fury. They have been linked with a bout throughout their careers, but a deal has not been made so far. Fury’s camp offered Joshua a 60-40 offer before The Gypsy King faced Derek Chisora. However, the tight deadlines meant an agreement was never made. The same offer was made for a Fury-Joshua fight last summer. But Joshua’s team decided to face Robert Helenius. Since Fury has been trash-talking his British rival, Joshua is keen to settle the score in the ring.
Joshua On Fury
“This is one of my rivals, this is someone I want to compete with one day. So everything he says, I’ve got it all stored in the back of my memory and when the fight happens, I’m going to use it as a lot of fuel. 100 per cent. You take it personally and you meditate on it. You want to punish them for what they said about you,” Joshua said
“You’ve got Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk for all the belts and then once that’s done hopefully I can kick down the door and get my opportunity. I was hoping June. I’ve got some time to go on dates now and mingle a little bit. I’m training at the minute, I’ve got two months before I get into training camp. I think what they’re saying is be patient because you’ve got Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk for all the belts and then once that’s done hopefully I can kick down the door and get my opportunity,” Joshua added
