Joshua Beats Dillian Whyte, AJ-Wilder Is Off If Joshua Loses

Anthony Joshua will beat Dillian Whyte in their rematch.

That is according to Michael Hunter. Both fighters are rebuilding themselves following their recent setbacks.

Joshua followed up his consecutive losses against Oleksandr Usyk with a unanimous-decision win over Jermaine Franklin.

Meanwhile, Whyte did the same following his sixth-round-stoppage loss to Tyson Fury with a win over Franklin too.

The fighters have finalized the terms for their bout that will take place on August 12th, 2023.

And both do have a history given that they faced each other in 2015 as Joshua emerged victorious with a seventh-round knockout.

Meanwhile, Whyte did get the better of ‘AJ’ during their time in the amateur ranks. And this time around, Hunter does not see any other outcome other than an ‘AJ’ win.

“I came over to Dallas spar with Anthony. I think AJ wins that fight,” Hunter

Nevertheless, there are other obstacles that will have to be dealt with. Whyte has allegedly confirmed that he will not be doing any promotional work for the Joshua fight.

This was the same mindset that Whyte adopted when he fought Fury. However, given that Whyte’s time at the top level is diminishing given the failure of a world title, his actions may not do him any favors.

“I remember I interviewed Fury by himself. I was like, ‘Where’s Dillian Whyte?’ And he’s like, for whatever reason, I don’t know what the reason was. I can’t remember, but he didn’t turn up. So you better turn up for this one. He better,” Ade Oladipo (DAZN)

Both fighters know that their world title ambitions and lucrative fight offers are on the line. Victory for Joshua keeps his aspirations of having a super fight with Deontay Wilder open.

Meanwhile, a win for Whyte could propel him back to the forefront of the division and put him in the mix for another title shot.

And given that DAZN has just lost Canelo Alvarez to the PBC, a mega-domestic fight could be the answer that the network needs in order to fill the Mexican’s gap.

Hearn On Wilder

And the stakes for that fight have only increased. Eddie Hearn has revealed that a Joshua loss would end any hopes of the Wilder fight.

Joshua is reportedly in line to receive $60 million for such a fight that is expected to go down in Saudia Arabia in December. Therefore, the fact that Joshua took the Whyte fight could end up being a massive risk.

This was also seen when ‘AJ’ chose to fight Andy Ruiz Jr. on short notice when he made his American debut after his original opponent, Jarrell Miller, pulled out after testing postive for banned substances.

That decision ultimately backfired as Ruiz ended up stopping the Brit in a major upset. With that being said, ‘AJ’ is risking it all.

“You’ve got that Deontay Wilder fight in December, he could’ve just waited and had an easy, gimme fight at the O2 – but he’s decided to roll the dice.

“We’ve been told categorically that the deal on the table is not the deal if he loses to Dillian Whyte. They didn’t want him to fight Dillian Whyte.

“It was almost like, ‘Please, don’t fight Dillian Whyte. You don’t need to. We’ve got this fight in December. But AJ was like, ‘No. I want to fight.

“If he wins on August 12, he’ll go into the Deontay Wilder fight with loads of momentum and again it’s just adding to that incredible CV.

“I think he should be praised for the fact he wants to give you a real fight instead of just a tick-over fight until he fights Deontay Wilder – this is very dangerous,” Hearn

But now that the fight with Joshua and Whyte has been confirmed, both boxers are looking to put on a show. There is a lot of bad blood between the pair, given that they are from opposite sides of London.

In addition, the first fight saw both fighters engaging in verbal ‘trash talk’ as things got heated. However, this time around, the fighters are looking to focus on the business ahead.

“I’ve been clear that my plan is to be active this year. I’ll be ready to fight. I look forward to dealing with business,” Joshua

“I’m looking forward to returning to the London O2 on August 12 and going to war. It’s 1-1, so this is the decider,” Whyte

“I can’t quite believe this fight is happening and there was absolutely no stopping either man. The rivalry runs deep and there is something about these two where they will never back down from each other. It is an absolute must-win for both. Get ready for fireworks,” Hearn

Joshua may be the favorite, but it is a fight that could throw up a few surprises. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing by visiting boxingblitz right here.
