Joshua And Parker Celebrate Huge Wins – Post-Fight Pressers
Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder had contrasting fortunes on ‘The Day of Reckoning’ card.
Joshua had the pressure of headlining in Riyadh with all eyes on his demeanour coming into the fight. The Brit failed to take part in his media workout. At the same time, Joshua was visibly nervous in his quest to eventually become a three-time world champion moving forward. Joshua silenced those doubters with an impressive performance. His right hand and jab were on point, busting Wallin’s nose and creating a cut near his eye as the Swede’s team threw in the towel after round five.
Wilder had a different outcome. The Bronze Bomber was out of sorts, fighting on the back foot for most of the bout. Parker landed several huge right hands of his own, a weapon Wilder is known for, as the American was out of sorts. The defeat was so one-sided on the cards, which resulted in question marks over where Wilder goes next. The American hinted he could leave the sport, as a Joshua fight appears doubtful.
Comments
“I can’t rate my performance. Ben Davison, my performance team, I’ll leave it up to them. Victory by any means. Like Otto, you want to do whatever it takes to be victorious. That’s all I want to be. I was looking on the roster of heavyweights that have been on this card. I’ve fought Otto, fought Parker, was going to fight Baby Miller. I’ve been around the block.
“It is all about your vision, your timing and your reaction. I am just a gifted fighter that has a special gift and I use it to the best of my ability. I work hard – extremely hard. And if it works, it works and today it was my day, thanks god,” Joshua
Parker’s Comments
“I want to say respect to Wilder, he’s a dangerous fighter. Tough fight, but we trained very hard for this. We were purely focused and had great momentum. Everyone had other plans, but this is God’s plan. I stayed calm, stayed relaxed, switched on for every second of every round. We got the win. Merry Christmas to us.
“I had to be aware at all times. He did catch me a few times on the guard, and I’ll tell you this, it’s a very hard right hand. If he landed clean, it would have been different, but today was my day. This is massive. This is the toughest opponent I’ve faced,” Parker
