Josh Taylor Is A ‘Shot’ Fighter – Says Jack Catterall
Jack Catterall no longer believes Josh Taylor is the same fighter that he used to be following his recent loss to Teofimo Lopez.
Taylor was comprehensively beaten on points, as Lopez walked away with a unanimous decision to win the WBO junior-welterweight title.
The defeat was the first of Taylor’s career, but in reality, it was another poor performance that followed after the Scot had faced Catterall in the fight before.
Prior to losing to Lopez, Taylor was given a split-decision win over Catterall. While that may have been the case, the overwhelming consensus was that Catterall should have been given the decision.
As a result, Catterall missed out on the opportunity to become undisputed. A rematch was on course, only for Taylor to vacate the titles. Thereafter, the Scot suffered an injury as he announced a fight with Lopez instead.
And given that Taylor is most likely going to move up to 147, a fight with Catterall looks as good as dead. With that being said, Catterall had this to say.
“It’s disappointing that I didn’t get to beat up Taylor and Lopez did. It is what it is. I think he’s shot to pieces. He’s had a great career we can’t deny that. I would love to beat him up again but he doesn’t bring much to the table in that regard,” Catterall
Since then, Catterall did bounce back from the disappointment of the Taylor loss by beating Darragh Foley via a unanimous decision.
That should keep his hopes alive of a major fight in the 140 lb division, given that he has been linked with Regis Prograis in the past.
“I want to challenge myself and test myself against the top boys in the division and Regis is one of them. I look after myself. I’m training, I’m sparring, I’m resting and really firing on all cylinders. So I don’t see any need for a tune up fight,” Catterall said
Catteral’s highest ranking across all the organizations is number five, that being the Ring Magazine, showing that the 140-pounder is one of the best in the divison.
