Josh Taylor Desperate To Avenge The Teofimo Lopez Loss - 'I Win That Fight All Day'

Josh Taylor is desperate to avenge his loss to Teofimo Lopez.

The former undisputed junior welterweight champion was outclassed as Lopez won a unanimous decision. The victory meant Lopez took the Scot’s WBO belt to become a two-weight world champion. It was Taylor’s first loss of his career, but it also marked another worrying sign. It was the second performance in a row where Taylor performed under par.

His win over Jack Catterall was disputed as most of the boxing public claimed the Brit was ‘robbed’ despite Taylor getting a split decision victory. Taylor then indicated his decision to move up to 147 after suggestions he could no longer make the 140-pound limit. Since he had won every belt at the weight class, his motivation was to become a two-weight world champion. But moving forward, he wants to set the Lopez loss right.

Taylor On Lopez

“I just wasn’t good enough on the night, that’s all. But I do firmly believe, me at my best, I win that fight all day. I’d love to correct that wrong and box him again. I know I can perform better. That’s what annoyed me. Me at my best, I win that fight all day,” Taylor said

Both boxers are currently with Top Rank, making a fight possible later. But Lopez’s desire appears elsewhere. He has spoken about wanting to create the biggest fights for the most money, which cannot happen with Taylor. The victory was so one-sided that Taylor did not look like the same fighter, which made him undisputed.

Lopez has also been linked with Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia and Subriel Matias, all fights which would generate higher purses than a Taylor bout. In addition, since Taylor has gone up to 147, he may have to bide his time. Lopez is currently at 140, with no signs of moving up anytime soon unless there is a title fight on offer. The Takeover suggested a Crawford fight, but that is unlikely.

Lopez On Crawford

“As a fighter or fight [Terence] Crawford. I love challenges, I love it. How else am I going to learn? How else am I actually going to be great? And besides I am the first male [boxer] to become two-time undisputed. We are not too far away [in weight]. People don’t understand — why is Roberto Duran a great if he lost to all of those guys? Well, because he fought all of those guys. He gave them a helluva a fight despite Tommy Hearns … but that is boxing, that is what made him,” Lopez stated

Crawford’s intentions lie on securing a huge fight with Canelo Alvarez to become an undisputed champion in a third weight class. Before that can even be talked about, he is on course to face Errol Spence Jr. in his rematch. Talks are still underway as terms over the date and weight class need agreeing. That has left Taylor down the pecking order, with question marks over his future.
