Jones vs. Miocic Weigh-In Sparks Fan Reactions - 'Stipe Looks Huge'

Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic weighed in for their UFC 309 clash this weekend, with MMA fans having plenty to say.

Jones enters the fight as the UFC Heavyweight Champion after beating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win the belt. He then suffered a pectoral muscle injury, preventing him from facing Stipe at UFC 295 last November. During his time out injured, Tom Aspinall worked himself into a title shot. He will face the winner of Jones-Miocic, increasing the pressure on Bones, who is more keen on fighting Alex Pereira. Stipe is 42 years old and has not had a UFC fight since losing to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in 2021. But he has the chance to become a three-time heavyweight champion, knowing this could be his last fight.

Jones Vs. Miocic

Jones has a big pedigree, having become the youngest UFC champion ever when he won the light heavyweight title at 23 against Mauricio Rua in 2011. He stands at 6ft 4 and is known for his ability to do everything well. He has wins over Daniel Cormier, Vitor Belfort, and Rashad Evans, to name a few. Jones has ten knockouts and seven submissions. He also has the record of the most title defenses at light-heavyweight, which stands at 11. He joined Demetrious Johnson for having the most successful title defenses.

Miocic has won the title twice and defended it on four occasions. His best wins were against Andrei Arlovski, Daniel Cormier and Francis Ngannou. Unlike Jones, he is a power hitter. 20 of his wins include 15 by way of knockout. He only has four losses to his name. Miocic’s strengths are his endurance and striking. But after three years away from the sport, will that have a bearing on the fight? Jones only has one loss on his record when he was disqualified against Matt Hamill in 2009. Here are their pre-weigh-in comments.

Weigh-In

“Right now, I’m pretty light. I’m like 235lbs. I bulked up, I got really strong and I felt how I was going to feel. I got that data down on how I would feel and now, more than ever, I feel I don’t need all that size to win as a heavyweight. But I’m grateful for my decision. I weight-lift with heavyweights all the time and I compete with heavyweights all the time And being overpowered, usually, isn’t my issue. So that’s why I feel really good,” Jones said

“I used to be around 240-ish, and the [Daniel Cormier] fights, I just kept losing weight. [And] I don’t know. I was eating a ton of food; I just kept losing it. So we changed some things up in my camp, and I’m eating a lot more and doing the right things. I’m definitely over 240, so 245 [pounds],” Miocic stated

During the weigh-in, Jones hit the scales at 237.6 pounds. That was 11 pounds lighter than Stipe who weighed 248.6 pounds. MMA fans had plenty to say.
