Jones Vs. Aspinall Is 'Going To Happen; It's Done'

Dana White says it is only a matter of time before Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall is announced.

This is the biggest fight to be made in the UFC, as the two heavyweights are on course to face each other following their last performances. Jones defended his UFC Heavyweight Title after stopping Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. It was the first defense of his title that he won after submitting Ciryl Gane in the first round at UFC 285. That was after three years away from the sport. Aspinall secured a shot at the title after stopping Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304.

It was revenge for their first fight, where Aspinall was stopped in the first round with a knee injury. Jones has been accused of ducking Tom for some time. This has been based on his mixed comments towards a fight. Aspinall was initially ruled out since Jones did not see the Brit as a worthy contender. He dismissed his achievements, which is currently an interim belt at heavyweight. He even considered a fight against Alex Pereira instead, stating that was much bigger globally.

“Alex Pereira, on the other hand, his accolades are incredible. I think I just beat my ninth world champion [Miocic]. To beat up Tom Aspinall, I don’t break a record doing that, or I don’t set my record further ahead doing that. Beating Alex Pereira, that would be my 10th UFC champion that I beat. It just does more for my legacy. I think the numbers are incredibly high, Americans love Alex Pereira, Brazilians love Alex Pereira. If I go to a barber shop and ask ‘Do you know Tom Aspinall?’ No one knows who he is outside UFC fans,” Jones said

However, following Pereira’s loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, he is no longer the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. That has ruled out a Jones fight, leaving Bones with a decision to make. He can either vacate his belt, retire or face Tom. White and Aspinall felt it was only a matter of time before the fight gets made.

“The fight is going to happen. It’s just a matter of when now, getting it signed and done. The fight will happen. It’s going to happen. It’s done but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date. But the fight is going to happen. It’s just a matter of getting it signed now. Me and my crew believe that this is probably the biggest heavyweight fight we’ve done. When we pull this off, and actually make the fight and announce it and start leading up to it, this will be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history,” Dana White stated

“There’s no where to go for Jon. He either has to fight me or retire now. And if he does retire, everyone knows that he will have been avoiding me. So there literally isn’t another fight for Jon at the moment. So it works out pretty good,” Tom Aspinall revealed
