Jon Jones Stops Stipe Miocic With Brutal Spinning Kick

Jon Jones stopped Stipe Miocic in the third round to retain his UFC Heavyweight Title.

Jones had plenty of pressure coming into this fight. He worked himself back from a pectoral muscle injury while also having had the pressure of the Tom Aspinall fight looming in the background. Tom is the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion, making him mandatory for the winner. Bones was accused of ducking Tom, but his win over Stipe would show otherwise. Miocic tried to set the pace early on. However, Jones secured a takedown before raining down shots on his man. Miocic’s defense stood up well to the attacks. However, he had taken plenty of blows.

Jones Vs. Miocic

Miocic found success in the second round when he kept the fight away from the ground. Stipe was trying to impose his size on Jones. He had around an 11-pound weight advantage, as the weigh-in showed. He went looking for the stoppage in the third but came unstuck. Jones got into range, landing a right hook that buzzed Stipe.

The heavyweight champion would later connect with a spinning back kick to the midsection. Stipe hit the floor, as Jones followed up with numerous punches. The referee then stopped the fight. Jones’ post-fight comments suggested that he may not retire, giving fans hope of seeing the Aspinall fight. As for Miocic, he confirmed he would retire.

Post-Fight

“He’s really, really good. He’s really durable. I was hitting him with some pretty decent shots but he kept coming forward. It was like fighting against the Terminator. Very, very discouraging to hit somebody that’s not reacting to it. But that body shot, no matter how tough you are, the liver’s the liver.

“As far as my future in the octagon, I decided that maybe I will not retire. I have some conversations to have with Dana [White] and Hunter [Campbell] and we have some negotiating to do and everything goes right, maybe we’ll give you guys what you want to see. “I know that we have options. I’m just going to see what Uncle Dana wants and what Uncle Hunter wants and you guys will hear about it soon,” Jones said

“It sucked ass, I lost. I knew he was going to be tough. He’s one of the best of all time. He caught me in the ribs. I expected everything and I just didn’t do what I was supposed to do. “Hats off to that man. I’m done. I’m hanging them up. I’m retiring,” Miocic stated
