Jesse Rodriguez Stops Guevara With A Brutal Uppercut -‘Nasty Knockout’
Jesse Rodriguez defended his WBC Super Flyweight Title with a devastating third-round knockout against his mandatory Pedro Guevara.
Rodriguez was confident coming into the fight, with his trainer Robert Garcia discussing his man’s ambitions of becoming undisputed. The difference in quality showed as Rodriguez made light work of his first defense. Guevara tried to move around in the ring in the opener while Rodriguez was stalking his man. After the two fighters had a cautious opener, Rodriguez showed his superiority. He landed his left hook on numerous occasions in the second round, buzzing Guevara. The latter tried to keep Bam off him by using body shots, but it only delayed the inevitable. Rodriguez was looking to set up the uppercut, which eventually came in the third.
A straight left sent Guevara to the canvas. While he got up, Bam landed a massive right uppercut to the jaw. Guevara went crashing to the floor. The referee began the count only to then call it off as he stopped the fight. It was a remarkable win since it was the first time that Guevara had been stopped. All of his prior losses were on the scorecards.
Rodriguez’s KO
The CompuBox numbers also showed Rodriguez’s dominance. He connected with 64 out of his 183 punches. 22 were from his jab, and 42 were power punches. In comparison, Guevara connected with 21 shots in total. Three were from his jab and just 18 power punches. In his post-fight comments, Bam said he was happy with his performance. He was also targeting a fight with Chocolatito.
“I had a feeling it was gonna happen that way. He started moving a lot, but I learned from fights where I didn’t look good. You saw tonight who I am. This is my weight class right now. I want a unification fight and I’m ready right now. If I can’t get a unification fight, then I’ll fight [Roman Gonzalez]. Why not? That’ll be badass,” Rodriguez said
“I mean, that was like an artist at work. [Oleksandr] Usyk incredible, [Terence] Crawford incredible … I think this kid is No. 3 pound-for-pound pay-per-view fighter. “Right now, we need to see him unify, If we can’t unify, I believe Chocolatito is the fight,” Eddie Hearn
