Jamie Foxx Brings 1984 Olympic Boxing Glory To Netflix

Jamie Foxx is currently filming “Fight for ’84”, a Netflix boxing biopic that captures American boxing sports history.
In this leading role, Foxx portrays Master Sergeant Roosevelt Sanders, a U.S. Marine who was handed the task of building a boxing team from scratch. The film’s premise is the devastating 1980 plane crash—LOT Polish Airlines Flight 007—which claimed the lives of all 87 passengers, including the core of the U.S. Olympic boxing team and their support staff.

Sanders transforms a group of underdogs into the 1984 “Dream Team.” The film reaches its peak at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where the rebuilt squad achieved what remains the most dominant performance in Olympic boxing history, winning nine gold medals. The roster featured future professional legends, including Pernell Whitaker, Evander Holyfield, Meldrick Taylor, and Mark Breland.
Foxx, who also serves as a producer on the project, is working alongside acast that includes Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Algee Smith (Euphoria), and newcomer Malachi Beasley. The film is expected to be released in 2026/2027. The film is directed by Andrés Baiz, known for his films Narcos and Griselda.

“What excites me about Fight for ’84 is how deeply human it is. It’s a story about second chances, about rebuilding after loss, and about finding strength through connection. This isn’t about fame or glory – it’s about heart, discipline, and purpose. In a time when so many of us are trying to find meaning again, this story feels more relevant than ever.
“Teaming up with Jamie Foxx is incredibly exciting. He’s an exceptional actor with unmatched range, and brings realness and depth you can’t fake. As star and producer, he brings passion and truth to the role. I’m eager to learn from him and, through honest direction, help him tap into something raw and deeply personal,” Biaz said
