Jamahal Hill Reacts To His Pereira Altercation

Jamahal Hill reacted to his recent altercation with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira.

The pair were involved in an altercation at a training center where they almost came to blows. Hill fired verbal shorts at Alex, who responded by throwing some gloves in his direction. Pereira was gesturing to Hill to spar. They were eventually separated as the situation died down. But the tension has been brewing for some time. Pereira knocked out Hill at UFC 300.

The fight ended in the first round as Alex landed a big left to drop his man. Pereira followed that up with numerous strikes as the fight was stopped. But Hill was not pleased with the circumstances before the knockout. Hill was not happy with the referee, who intervened before the stoppage, deeming that Alex was hit low. They eventually touched gloves after which the knockout came.

Hill Reacts

“So that’s not advancing during a timeout? Herb stepped behind me and said continue blocking my left side! This all happened in 4 seconds so to say that didn’t play a factor is retarded!! I accept I should’ve been more on point and not shown sportsmanship when I wasn’t given any, it was dumb on my part, but you learn,” Hill said

Hill seems determined to secure a rematch. He must first get past Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311. Both fighters understand what it takes to be in the ring with Pereira, having been stopped by him. Jiri was stopped at UFC 295 and UFC 303, missing out on the UFC Light Heavyweight Belt twice. Even if Hill beats Alex, he is unlikely to get a title shot next.

Hill On Pereira

Alex is under pressure to face the Russian Magomed Ankalaev next, who is seen as the biggest threat in the division. Pereira also said he would take some time off after beating Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307. But after having had time to reflect on their recent altercation, Hill was determined to settle the score. He recognized that if he did raise his hands, he would have jeopardised any chances of getting a rematch.

“We’re not getting paid right now. I get paid to put on gloves and fight. When I’m out in a situation like that, we could throw hands right now! I’m not ‘finna wait, take time, put no gloves on or none of that. We can throw hands right now! And his response was just to stand there…We’ll get paid. I’m not going to ruin my bread because here’s the thing right?

“If I just reached over and hit him right there, I might lose out on my next fight, and any opportunities I have left. Restrictions now at the PI and all these other things… we made a lot of money the first time we fought, so why wouldn’t I make a lot of money when I knock [him out] the next time?,” Hill said
