Jake Paul Says McGregor Is No Longer Relevant - 'He Hasn’t Won Z Fight In 7 Years'

Jake Paul says Conor McGregor is no longer relevant.

McGregor disappointed MMA fans when he pulled out of his UFC 303 fight with Michael Chandler. The Notorious hoped for his first fight since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. McGregor broke his leg and suffered the third defeat out of his last four UFC fights. McGregor’s fight with Chandler set a new UFC record of over $20 million. The first presser for McGregor-Chandler sold out in nine minutes, showing the demand to see McGregor still fighting. While that may be the case, Paul thinks otherwise. He was clear that the inactivity was not doing McGregor any favors, as he addressed whether he would invite McGregor to the fight.

Paul On McGregor

“Yea look we can get him a 4th or 5th row ticket, but he’s kinda lost his celebrity and star power. I don’t think people really care about him, but I’m sure I could comp him a 4th or 5th row. [And] I would disagree brother. I would disagree. There’s a new sheriff in town. He hasn’t won a fight in what 6, 7 years, I don’t even know how long it’s been.  He’s embarrassing himself he’s ruining his legacy with all the drugs and the way he looks on line. He’s lost his mind, he’s a maniac. At one point Conor was great, everyone loved Conor. But man, I feel bad for the guy now,” Paul said

Chandler’s Future

Those comments could have some substance as Chandler may now step away from the McGregor fight. He is considering a fight with the BMF Champion Max Holloway. That could be targeted for either before or after the McGregor fight. Holloway secured the belt with a stunning last-minute knockout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.

Chandler must keep himself active. He signed with the UFC in 2020 following Bellator and beat Dan Hooker at UFC 257 on his debut. He then fought Charles Oliveira for the vacant UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 262, only to come up short. There were reports that Chandler vs. Holloway was being considered for UFC 303 once McGregor withdrew. Based on Chandler’s previous comments, a fight could be made.

“If you guys noticed in the lightweight rankings, myself and Max Holloway in the lightweight rankings, we sure are close. There’s definitely a lot of people out there who have shared the same sentiment that I have, that I am one of the baddest dudes on the planet. I embody the BMF moniker. Obviously, I am focused on Conor (on) June 29 – I would love to smash Conor. I would love to fight Islam or Poirier or (Arman) Tsarukyan. I guess not Gaethje. Maybe not now. But whoever’s got the belt at lightweight, or I would love to fight Holloway or whoever has the BMF belt,” Chandler said

The fight also makes sense for Holloway, who has been chasing the McGregor fight. The winner could arguably face McGregor, who has expressed his desire for the BMF belt. But since Chandler has waited so long for McGregor, does he want to risk losing that chance if he loses to Holloway?
