Jake Paul Is 'The Face Of Boxing'

Bill Haney has praised Jake Paul’s contribution to the sport of boxing.

Paul has been a divisive figure ever since he entered the sport. He started his career fighting influencers before he switched to taking on former MMA fighters. He secured victories against Anderson Silva, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley to build his profile. That led him to his first fight against a professional boxer when he took on Tommy Fury. While he came out second best with a split decision, he did put up a credible performance. He dropped Fury with his jab and made it to the final bell. The rematch never happened, as Paul sought to rebuild his brand.

He took on Nate Diaz in his next fight, beating him via a unanimous decision. Since the Diaz fight, he has secured three victories in a row, He stopped Andre August, Ryan Bourland and Mike Perry in his last fight. He is scheduled to take on Mike Tyson on November 15, live on Netflix. This would be the first time that a boxing fight is broadcast on the platform. The fight is reportedly set to earn Paul over $20 million plus additional sponsorship income.

Haney On Paul

It will increase his profile to a larger audience and appeal to the crossover fanbase. He has previously said that his aim is to secure a title shot in the future while also taking on Canelo Alvarez in what would be a super fight. Paul is also expected to make his PFL debut at some point next year. He signed with the organization but has not had his MMA fight. He has been linked with several names, such as Tommy Fury, Tyron Woodley, and even Jorge Masvidal. Paul has managed to bring in a new wave of boxing fans, something Bill Haney praised him for.

“Why don’t they say the truth? The Face of Boxing is Jake Paul. I say the heartbeat of it is Devin Haney, and being 25 and the most accomplished. If it’s about gates, popularity, and bringing new eyes to the sport. Did I say something wrong when I said Jake Paul is the Face and Devin is the heartbeat? We know that when you’re talking about legacy because clearly, you people aren’t thinking about legacy,” Bill said

Haney’s Future

Haney’s comments could also be seen as a way to outline Devin’s future in the sport. Devin has not boxed since facing Ryan Garcia in April. He lost a majority decision after getting dropped three times. But the result was turned into a no-contest after Garcia failed VADA tests for Ostarine. Haney has since then sued Garcia for fraud, unjust enrichment and battery.

He has also named Golden Boy Promotions in the lawsuit. Haney has previously stated that his focus is now on securing bigger purses rather than legacy. The Dream became the Undisputed Lightweight Champion and also became champion when he beat Regis Prograis for the WBC Junior Welterweight Title. He has said that his legacy is secure, as he wants the biggest bouts, meaning that he could follow the blueprint led by Jake Paul.
