Jake Paul Considered Suicide - 'I Was Going To Drive Off A Cliff'

Jake Paul has said that he considered committing suicide before he turned to boxing, which saved his life.

Paul has made massive inroads in the sport ever since he decided to take it seriously. The Problem Child began fighting influencers and former MMA fighters as he sought to build his brand. Victories against Ben Askren, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley showed that Paul had some talent in the sport. He then decided to commit himself further by taking on his first professional boxer. While he lost out to Tommy Fury in a split decision, he did put in a credible performance after having dropped him. He bounced back from that with four victories in a row, stopping Mike Perry in his last bout.

He now has a lucrative fight with Mike Tyson lined up for November 15, which will be the first time that Netflix airs a boxing bout. Paul has also managed to make significant inroads within the promotional game. His MVP promotions has been a success, offering fighters an opportunity to earn bigger paydays. He has also helped support other fighters, namely Amando Serrano, to become one of the biggest stars in the sport. Serrano will also fight on the Paul vs. Tyson card in a huge rematch against Katie Taylor

Paul Reacts

However, things could have been so different given the dark period that Paul was going through. The former Disney star admitted that he was struggling with his brand online after his brother Logan Paul faced huge criticism for posting a video about a suicide victim in Japan. The video was allegedly Logan’s choice, which drew a significant amount of criticism. That backlash also impacted Jake, who reportedly lost $30 million in deals. Paul admitted that his mental health began to suffer as he considered taking his life. He said that he had even planned out the whole thing. However, he did not go through with it. That is when he decided to turn to boxing.

“I got lumped into all my brother’s hate. It was bad. The suicide forest thing basically ruined my career and income. I lost probably $30 million in deals. There was one $15 million deal for retail products that fell apart…It led to drinking and drugs and Los Angeles and going to parties and just that whole entire world. I got sucked up into it really quickly…I just felt wrong in life and by all the cards I had been dealt…[And] I had a plan. I mean, it’s crazy. I was going to put a bunch of gas cans in my Lamborghini and get really drunk and drive off the top of this cliff in Calabasas. It’s called Stunt Road,” Paul said

Paul On Pereira

Outside of the ring, Paul does have significant plans. He has spoken about wanting to become a world champion. He has also stated that he would like to secure a lucrative fight with Canelo Alvarez later down the line. Paul has also previously called Alex Pereira, the UFC two-weight champion, who is coming off a victory against Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307. Pereira stopped him in the fourth round. But Pereira was dropped to the ground before getting his man out. Paul reacted to the performance, saying he would beat Alex in a boxing bout.

“One thousand percent I would beat him. That’s the thing is, Rountree actually kind of exposed that he doesn’t have a high volume output. He doesn’t like body shots. In MMA, Pereira would rip my head off. But boxing is a completely different sport, and the pace of it, and the style of it… He has holes. I mean, Rountree rocked him, hurt him a couple of times to the body, but didn’t follow up on it. So if anything, this fight showed me, yes, Alex Pereira is great. But I know I would beat him in a boxing match,” Paul stated
