Jake Paul Confirms An MMA Rematch Is In Place For Nate Diaz

In the latest boxing/MMA news, Jake Paul has revealed that a rematch is in place with Nate Diaz following their boxing bout.
The ‘Problem Child’ beat the MMA fighter via a unanimous decision on August 5th, 2023, in a fairly one-sided fight. In the aftermath of the fight, there were talks over a rematch in MMA following Paul’s $10 million offer.
That would have required Diaz to fight under the PFL banner, something which has not materialised yet. Since then, Diaz has hinted at running things back but in boxing first before an MMA fight was considered.
In response, Paul did indicate that he would be fighting on December 15th, 2023, which implied that it could be Diaz. And yet, that was not the case as Paul was seeking another opponent before then facing Diaz later down the line in MMA.
Paul On The Diaz
“Eight fights in the boxing game and I’m already its biggest name. I’ve proved that I can headline the biggest global events and defy the odds. PPV after PPV after PPV, and I’m just getting started. My mission is to be a world champion and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get there. December 15th is the next step on my journey, and I promise you’re not going to want to miss it. For the record: Jake Paul will not be boxing Nate Diaz again,” Paul and MVP
Despite this being the case, an MMA offer is on the table. It is alleged that Paul has agreed to enter the cage, leaving the ball firmly in Diaz’s court. However, in doing so, Diaz would have to fight under the PFL, a clear competitor of the UFC, something which Diaz will have to navigate after having fought under the UFC for so long.
“Nate Diaz and Jake Paul have received an offer from the Professional Fighters League [PFL] to rematch in MMA in the SmartCage. Jake Paul has accepted the offer.”
Will It Happen?
Nevertheless, there is an argument that the demand to see both fighters run things back is not there. Despite the event selling over 500,000 pay-per-views, the boxing event lacked the fireworks that fans were expecting.
Outside of the knockdown in round five, Paul did not look like he was on the cusp of stopping Diaz. And since the latter was making his boxing debut, that did come as a surprise.
Meanwhile, an MMA rematch will be complicated by Diaz’s relationship with the UFC. And in any event, the chances of Paul pulling off an upset are extremely slim.
In addition, a fight against Diaz is unlikely to help Paul’s ambitions of becoming a world champion from a skills point of view. Although that may be the case, it would go someway into helping the Problem Child get the biggest fights.
After all, there is no denying that Paul is capable of generating huge numbers. So moving forward, there are still some hurdles to overcome before fans get to see Paul fight Diaz once again.
