Irish Soccer Team Distances Themselves From McGregor

Irish soccer team Drogheda United has distanced themselves from Conor McGregor.
McGregor has not had the best reputation of late. He was found liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand after the latter filed a lawsuit. McGregor was ordered to pay her around $258,000 in damages. He was also ordered to pay her legal fees. Reports indicated that McGregor left Ireland for Dubai to let the situation die down.
He has received backlash in the country. Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey has dropped McGregor from their marketing. The Hitman Video game franchise have also removed McGregor. Airports in Dublin and Cork have also stated that they will not sell his beverages in their airports. Irish politician Ruth Coppinger even stated that she was not opposed to a boycott of McGregor’s products.
McGregor’s Perception
However, in his social media post, McGregor shared a picture of himself with the FAI Cup. The trophy was won by Drogheda United, who overcame Derry City 2-0 to become the FAI champions. It was the second time the team picked up the trophy in 100 years, making it a historic achievement. McGregor then celebrated the achievement at the Black Forge Inn. He did it alongside his cousin Warren Davis. Davis was a substitute in the final but did not come on the pitch. However, the Irish football team has said they are not affiliated with McGregor in any way.

“A social media post has been brought to our attention today regarding the FAI Cup. Those pictured are a close relation to one of our first team players, who like all the other players had custody of the cup to celebrate with their families at different intervals. Drogheda United do not associate ourselves with the individual who made the social media post in any way, or with any unauthorised brands mentioned,” statement said
McGregors’ Future
The negative perception has created question marks over whether McGregor will fight again. The Notorious has not had a UFC fight since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. That was the third time he had lost out of his previous four fights. He then pulled out of his UFC 303 fight against Michael Chandler with a broken toe. McGregor also then announced that he would be facing Dan Hooker on February 1. But that did not materialize, as The Notorious had been linked with a boxing fight. There are reports he could box Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition. But Chael Sonnen has said he doubts the fight will go ahead.
“What a scam – the whole thing is flawed… First off, it’s not Saudi Arabia, it’s India; for some Indian billionaire who wants to bring tourism to the country [when] India is the most populated country in the world, like it is just fake.
“But let me tell you one thing that a rich guy hates, if you are a really rich guy, it actually pains them and keeps them up at night to not have their fame – a guy that rich wants his credit for it. And the reason I tell you that is the way Conor tells this story, there’s some rich billionaire who’s going to cut a check for $250 million – first off, nobody is cutting a check for $250 million when the going rate of the market is $8 million,” Sonnen said
