Imane Khelif Ready For Olympic Return Despite New Sex Testing Rules

Imane Khelif says she will have sex testing to secure her place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics if it is required.
Khelif confirmed she has “nothing to hide” after the controversy that emerged during the Paris 2024 Olympics where she won a gold medal. Khelif suffered a 2023 disqualification by the now-defunct International Boxing Association (IBA), a move the IOC previously dismissed as arbitrary. However, the landscape has changed with World Boxing, the new governing body for the 2028 Games, which implemented a policy requiring all female athletes to undergo PCR genetic testing.
While Khelif has legally challenged these requirements through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)—arguing they are discriminatory and specifically target her—she remains committed to doing whatever is necessary to defend her title. She has now said she will comply with any gender protocols mandated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“Of course, I would accept doing anything I’m required to do to participate in competitions. They should protect women, but they need to pay attention that while protecting women, they shouldn’t hurt other women. I’m not transgender. I’m a woman. I want to live my life. Please do not exploit me in your political agendas,” Khelif said
Khelif also revealed she has undergone hormone treatment to remove any doubts over her ability to compete. The boxer revealed this was done with a view to lowering the amount of testosterone in the body. Despite those measures, Khelif will have to accept that not everyone may see things from the boxer’s perspective. President Donald Trump and J.K. Rowling were just a few. However, Khelif remains adamant about the steps that have been taken.

“I have female hormones. And people don’t know this, but I have taken hormone treatments to lower my testosterone levels for competitions. Yes, and it’s natural. [I am] surrounded by doctors, a professor is monitoring me… For the Paris Games qualifying tournament, which took place in Dakar, I lowered my testosterone levels to zero.
“I respect everyone, and I respect Trump. Because he is the President of the United States. But he cannot distort the truth. I am not a trans woman, I am a girl. I was raised as a girl, I grew up as a girl, the people in my village have always known me as a girl,” Khelif added
