Hooker vs. Gaethje Reportedly Being Considered

Dan Hooker and Justin Gaethje are reportedly being considered for a fight.

According to lightweight fighter Renato Moicano, the UFC is looking for the fight to take place at UFC 313 on March 8 from Las Vegas, Nevada. The pair have had contrasting fortunes based on their last fight. Hooker is on a three-fight win streak following his victory against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305. The streak has rejuvenated his career after losing two on the spin against Islam Makhachev and Arnold Allen. Hooker was linked with a fight against Conor McGregor. The Notorious confirmed that he was set to face Hooker on February 1 in Saudi Arabia. Hooker also said he wanted the fight.

“It’s a fight that makes a lot of sense for him. It makes a lot of sense for me. “We’re obviously both keen on the fight, but I don’t know what’s going on for him behind the scenes, and I don’t know what’s going on with him and the UFC and their relationship. That’s all I can say. I’m fighting early next year. I told the UFC either January or March, and it will be someone in the top five, or Conor McGregor,” Hooker said

Hooker And Gaethje

But the UFC did not announce this, while McGregor was found liable over a sexual assault lawsuit, putting an end to that bout. Gaethje is coming off a devastating loss against Max Holloway. The latter knocked him out in dramatic circumstances at UFC 300. Holloway landed a massive right hand to end the fight with a second left. The win made Holloway the new BMF Champion. It was a devastating blow since Justin had knocked out Dustin Poirier in the fight before to win the BMF Title.

But Holloway ended up getting stopped himself in his next fight. Ilia Topuria gave Holloway his first stoppage loss. But the BMF Belt was not on the line as Topuria defended his featherweight title. If the fight does not go ahead, there are others names mentioned for a Justin fight. Dustin has said that he wants to fight in Louisiana before he retires. He mentioned Hooker, Gaethje and Holloway as possible opponents in a one-night BMF-style tournament. Dustin has wins over all of them except for Justin. That could set the narrative to run things back in a trilogy. Gaethje has previously stated that he is open to fighting Poirier again, as they have a 1-1 record.

“It could be anybody, you know? It could be me. [And] it could be anybody. He’s a world-class fighter at the highest level, so anytime he fights, he’s spectacular alone. Obviously, we fought twice, so it makes sense, but I have no idea what’s going to happen. He (Poirier) knocked me out. I mean, I am okay with that. I am sure that it’s a little bit more bitter since I was the last one to win, but it does not matter,” Justin stated
