Hitchins Defeats Paro For IBF Title

Richardson Hitchins secured a win over Liam Paro to pick up the latter’s IBF Junior Welterweight Title in an impressive performance.
Hitchins defied the pre-fight critics, who questioned whether he was ready for this fight based on his last performance. He entered the bout with an unconvincing win over Gustavo Lemos in his last fight. Meanwhile, Paro was full of confidence, having upset knockout artist Subriel Matias to pick up the belt. But Hitchins showed that he belonged at world level with a gritty performance. It was a cautious affair early on. Paro was trying to push the pace while Hitchins was biding his time with counters in a cagey opener.
In round two, Hitchins found his range quickly. He was landing his right hand just as Paro tried to pressure him. By round three, Hitichins was full of confidence. He was keeping Paro at bay with his jab, although Paro showed signs of life late in the round by closing the gap and landing. Paro’s pressure was now having an impact. He was throwing more punches, although Hitchins was still having success with counters. But round five saw a critical moment. Hitchins buzzed Paro with a right hand, allowing him to dictate the fight.
In round eight, Hitichins landed another hard right to the body. Paro was slowing down with his punches, which were now missing the target. In the championship rounds, Hitchins kept his range, not allowing Paro to land anything. Paro’s eye was heavily swollen, showing the damage he had taken. Although Hitichins took it on the scorecards, the judges somehow had it a split decision when Hitchins had clearly done more damage.
Post-Fight
“I was just hoping that they didn’t rob me. Once I figured out the timing on the right hand, I started taking over. I knew I was going to get him. Tonight, I showed him I’m on a different level,” Hitchens stated
I guess it’s what they call a full-circle moment. How ironic is that? Everyone thought my last fight’s scoring was crazy. So, how ironic is that? I want Teofimo [Lopez] in New York. That’s a massive fight for 2025. I don’t belong in the ring with anyone but the best,” Hitichins said
“He’s a hell of a fighter, hell of a champion. No excuses, we had a good camp, he was the better man tonight. We let him get set in his way and that was it. I’ll be back. It’s not a loss, it’s a lesson,” Paro revealed
