Hearn Wants Joshua To Box Fury Twice

Eddie Hearn said he wants Anthony Joshua to fight Tyson Fury twice next year.
The comments come after Joshua was knocked out by Daniel Dubois last weekend, as the latter remained the IBF Heavyweight Champion. Joshua was dropped four times before he was stopped in the fifth round, ending his hopes of becoming a three-time heavyweight champion. In his post-fight comments, Joshua clarified that he still wanted to fight despite suggestions that he should call it a day.
The Brit has generational wealth, with reports that he is worth over $200 million. He is a former Unified Heavyweight Champion on two occasions, meaning that there is no pressing need for Joshua to continue fighting. However, the Fury fight is the biggest domestic clash that can be made.
Hearn Reacts
“Daniel Dubois is probably going to fight in February. Are we ready to go in February? Is that the right move for us? That’s the next decision. For me, we have to fight Tyson Fury before it’s done. If Tyson Fury loses against Oleksandr Usyk, my advice for those two [Joshua and Fury] is to have two fights in 2025 and then sail off in the sunset. May the best man win. If Fury wins against Oleksandr Usyk, AJ can fight Fury for the unified heavyweight championship,” Hearn stated
The pair previously tried to make it on two occasions, one of which involved the two sides signing a contract. However, the fight never went ahead after Deontay Wilder won an arbitration, meaning that Fury had to go ahead with the rematch. Fury will rematch Oleksandr Usyk on December 21 after losing their first fight. The Ukrainian won a split decision to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion.
If Fury beats Usyk, the Saudis have indicated that they will make that fight regardless of whatever happens next. Hearn wants that fight to take place twice. It can potentially break big commercial records, especially since Joshua and Dubois broke the Wembley attendance record by setting it to 96,000. The previous attendance record was set by Fury against Dillian Whyte at 94,000.
Will It Happen?
Nevertheless, the fight is not as big as it could have been. Joshua is on the decline since his four victories prior to Dubois were not against the biggest names. Wins against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou created the narrative that Joshua was back to his best. However, Ngannou was an MMA fighter, while Wallin was not the same fighter who boxed Tyson Fury.
The wins against Franklin and Helenius were unconvincing, despite Joshua stopping the latter. Fury is not the same fighter as he lost his undefeated record. There are question marks over whether the Gypsy King is mentally the same fighter. He refused to accept the loss, stating that Usyk had only been given the decision because of the Russia-Ukraine war. Fury was also spotted drunk in a Morecambe pub after security evicted him. However, given that it is still the biggest domestic clash that can be made, there is enough demand to see it happen.
