Hearn Suggests Tank Davis Should Fight Outside The PBC For Bigger Fights

Eddie Hearn has called on Gervonta Davis to become independent and move away from the PBC to secure the biggest fights.

Hearn has been frustrated in his attempt to make a fight between Davis and Devin Haney. Bill Haney alleged Davis turned down a $20 million offer. Meanwhile, Hearn saw his Instagram message to Davis being shut down as he attempted to start talks over a Haney fight. That created the narrative that Davis is avoiding the most significant fights to take fewer risks for better paydays.

He is on course to make his return in the spring following his release from jail for violating the terms of his house arrest over a hit-and-run incident. Reports indicate that a fight against Isaac Cruz could take next. But given that Davis has already fought Cruz, there are question marks over whether it is viable. This is mainly because Davis could secure bigger paydays if he fought outside the PBC.

Hearn On Davis

“If I’m Tank Davis, I’m keeping myself nice and independent, and I’m looking at all the opportunities out there because the one time that Tank didn’t fight in-house, he made a fortune against Ryan Garcia. He can make a fortune against Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez, and all non-in-house fights. Of course, PBC will do everything they can to make him fight in-house fights. A lot of them don’t have contracts,” Hearn stated

One thing that has complicated things is PBC’s deal with Amazon Prime Video. The platform has 167 million subscribers in the US alone. That provides an incentive for PBC to have Davis fight on their network. Any offers for Davis outside the PBC will be for fights on other networks.

In addition, there are question marks over whether Davis wants to face the best. Despite being at 135 pounds, his biggest name has been Ryan Garcia. But the latter had a ten-pound rehydration clause, severely impacting his performance. But given that Deontay Wilder will now fight on DAZN to secure the biggest fights, with a potential Anthony Joshua bout, Hearn showed Davis what is possible.

Hearn On Wilder

“I think flexibility is important. The opportunity to make big fights away from your network. Deontay Wilder’s fight [this Saturday] is on DAZN. It’s also on ESPN+ because DAZN is choosing to move in that way, and I think that’s really reassuring for a fighter that you’re not going to get isolated in just making fights with your platform and your roster. Now, if you’re Tank Davis, ‘Who am I going to fight?’ If I fight in-house, it’s probably going to have to be an Isaac Cruz rematch. That’s not going to do any business,”  Hearn stated

Davis is arguably one of the most exciting boxers around, but there will come a time when boxing fans demand he faces the best. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
