Eddie Hearn ripped Oscar De La Hoya for his response towards Anthony Joshua getting knocked out by Daniel Dubois

Joshua was sent to the canvas four times after Dubois stopped him in the fifth round to retain his IBF Heavyweight Title. The defeat meant that Joshua was no longer in line for an undisputed title shot against the winner of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. He also missed out on becoming a three-time heavyweight champion. The manner of the defeat took everyone by surprise, especially since Joshua was considered a favorite.

De La Hoya On Hearn

De La Hoya reacted to the result, mocking Hearn for the manner in which he handled Joshua’s career. He also stated that boxers should avoid signing with Matchroom, given that their career would go downhill, whilst also stating that they would end up injured. Hearn has now responded. The boxing promoter hit out at De la Hoya, stating that the Golden Boy Promoter is simply hurt because he is losing fighters.

Oscar has lost two big names over the years, one of which was Canelo Alvarez, and the other Jaime Munguia. Canelo ultimately left Golden Boy on bad terms and accosted De La Hoya at the Munguia presser. He accused De La Hoya of trying to steal money from him, which allegedly came to light after an audit. De La Hoya would respond by suing Canelo for defamation. Alvarez also warned Munguia to be wary of the promoter.

Once Canelo got his revenge by defeating Munguia, the latter would end up leaving Golden Boy Promotions. Munguia then signed a deal with Top Rank as his future lies elsewhere. De La Hoya is also suffering from Ryan Garcia’s ban. Garcia became one of the faces of boxing after dropping Devin Haney three times to win a majority decision.

Hearn Responds

However, that was soon over after Garcia failed VADA tests for Ostarine. Ryan was banned for a year, meaning he cannot box until April 2025. The result was also turned into a no-contest, leaving De La Hoya without another star. Hearn simply felt that Oscar was being bitter towards him because his stable is not in a good place.

“He’s just a weird guy, but we all need weird in our lives. I don’t like people who pretend they’re so happy but are actually burning inside with this silly voice he’s put on. He’s lost all his fighters, and I think he’s hurting. Canelo is obviously gone. Jaime Munguia, he pretends that he hasn’t gone, but he’s gone to Top Rank. Vergil Ortiz, you saw his crowd against [Serhii] Bohachuk. Ryan Garcia is out for a year. Golden Boy is done.

“He’s [De La Hoya] still a character. I don’t take it too seriously, either, about what he says,” said Hearn. “I just think he’s got a lot of demons, Oscar. [And] I just hope he’s okay. When he says, ‘Look at AJ, he dropped. He doesn’t know how to build fighters.’ AJ is probably the best-built fighter out of any fighter in our generation. Oscar is Oscar. It’s another week of not talking about his fighters, who are all basically irrelevant,” Hearn said
