Hearn Left Embarrassed After ‘No Diddy’ Comment At Ennis-Avanesyan Presser

Eddie Hearn made a huge blunder following Jaron Ennis’ win over David Avanesyan.
Boots stopped Avanesyan at the end of round five after the ringside doctor called the fight off. It was the first successful defense of Ennis’ IBF Welterweight Title since signing with Matchroom. In his post-fight comments, Ennis indicated he wanted to fight the best names. In the welterweight division, there are several options.
Ennis’ Options
A fight with Mario Barrios allows Boots to win the WBC belt. However, Barrios is being linked with a fight against Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino could make a return out of retirement, giving Barrios a bigger payday. Barrios is also likely to be the favorite in that fight.
Another option is to face the WBA Welterweight Champion, Eimantas Stanionis. Stanionis is undefeated with a 15-0 record, which includes nine stoppages. Outside of those two fights, there is an outside shot of facing Conor Benn. The Brit is currently suspended after his two failed VADA tests for Clomiphene. However, Benn recently indicated that he expects his future to be resolved soon. That fight would sell out in the UK while giving Benn a big payday, which he needs following his legal battle.
Ennis’ Aims
That fight would likely end Matchroom’s heavy investment in Benn, whose stock has dropped massively since his failed tests. Alternatively, Ennis could move up to 154 pounds to face Terence Crawford. Crawford faces Israil Madrimov on August 3. If Crawford wins, Hearn wants to make that fight happen. Boots also indicated his desire to fight Bud.
“I felt good. I felt off a little bit. [And] I think I had a little ring rust. … My timing was a little off. I don’t know why I came in here thinking my timing was going to be off. But it’s OK. I’m in shape and could have gone 15 rounds easy. Most definitely, let’s make it happen. I want the big names. Terence Crawford or anybody else at that weight that has a big names,” Boots said
Hearn’s Blunder
“I’ll say it, I think he beats everyone. I think this is a special fighter that needs to be tested against the best in the world and that’s our job now. Activity is key. Too many of these great young fighters are too inactive. We must get him back out October, November, we’d love to return to Philadelphia. We got to bring the bigger fights here, the unification fights. He’s going to be around for a long time,” Hearn stated
In the post-fight presser, Hearn talked up the Crawford fight. He revealed how the fight had gotten his juices flowing. As he did so, he overstepped the marks with his enthusiasm, resulting in an awkward laughter from the crowd. Hearn responded by saying, ‘No, Diddy,’ resulting in a huge amount of laughter from the crowd. Ennis was also seen laughing at the side. Based on how Ennis looked, he was ready to dominate moving forward.
