Haney Hits Back At His Critics, Benn Wants GGG

In some recent boxing news, Devin Haney had a slight dig at his critics on social media in response to suggestions that the ‘Dream’ has not accomplished anything of note in boxing.

Haney is the current undisputed lightweight champion, something which he achieved by making history, as he became the youngest ever boxer to do so in the four-belt era.

Haney’s Legacy

His victory over George Kambosos Jr. in the latter’s own backyard brought him the titles. This was followed up by two successful defenses, a rematch with Kambosos and then a controversial unanimous-decision win over Vasiliy Lomachenko

And now Haney will attempt to become two-weight world champion against Regis Prograis for the latter’s WBC belt, as a fight looks likely.

Although that may be the case, Prograis questioned Haney’s standing in light of the opponents he beat to become undisputed at 135.

“That undisputed sh!t really don’t matter, bro. There’s a lot of people that been undisputed. Devin is f—— undisputed, bro, [against Kambosos]. That’s the thing. He’s the youngest undisputed champion ever. It depend on who you beat to be undisputed. It’s not about being undisputed and sh!t like that. I don’t care about undisputed,” Prograis said

Haney’s Aims

Despite that being the case, fighters can only overcome the opponents that come their way. Haney still remains undefeated as his record stands at 30-0, with 15 wins by way of knockout.

So moving forward, Haney had nothing but full confidence in his abilities to be remembered alongside some of the greats, provided he beats Prograis.

“Gamboa, Linares, Jojo Diaz, Kambosos 2x, Loma and Prograis next. 24 years old. Only compare me to greats cause only greats have done it,” Haney

Benn Wants GGG

Meanwhile, Conor Benn has shockingly called out Gennady Golovkin following the recent news that he will fight Rodolfo Orozco in Orlando, Florida, on September 23rd, 2023.

This will be the first time that Benn has entered into the ring following his two failed VADA tests that prevented his fight with Chris Eubank Jr. from going ahead.

Although there is still an appeal process going on, as UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed Benn’s suspension being uplifted, Benn is pressing ahead with his plans to box.

This included suggestions that he will fight Eubank Jr. by the end of the year. And now it has been followed up by a potential bout against GGG. The latter is 41-years-old and is entering into the latter parts of his career.

Therefore, facing Benn may not be at the top of his priorities. Meanwhile, for Benn, a move up to 160 to face one of the most destructive punchers in recent memory may not be a wise choice. And yet, Benn’s plans were clear.

“There’s big names that have been mentioned. Golovkin’s name was mentioned. I’d take that fight,” Benn

Nevertheless, this can only happen if Benn manages to prove his innocence. And as of now, there are still some issues that need addressing.

The question of strict liability still hangs over Benn’s head. The boxer must prove that Clomiphene was not in his system, or that there was a serious case of contamination. And until that is done, Benn still has questions to answer.
