Haney And Teofimo Trade Verbals - 'He Out Here Begging, You Punk'

Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez have fired verbal shots at each other following speculation over a fight.

Haney recently announced he would return in March, subject to an opponent being confirmed. Reports indicate that it is likely to be Adrien Broner. BLK Prime has already confirmed that Haney will fight on the platform. This is the second major star the platform has managed to secure after Terence Crawford made a sole appearance on the platform to beat David Avanesyan. Haney has not been in the boxing ring since last April in his no-contest against Ryan Garcia. Despite losing the fight, the result was overturned after Garcia tested positive for Ostarine.

Meanwhile, Lopez secured a win over Steve Claggett in his last fight to retain his WBO Junior Welterweight Title. He was aiming for the biggest fights. His desire was to face Terence Crawford. However, Bud’s focus is on trying to secure a fight with Canelo Alvarez. Lopez and Haney were linked with a fight at 135.

Haney Vs. Lopez

Lopez was the unified lightweight champion. But he lost those belts to George Kambosos Jr. before moving to 140. Haney remained at 135 to become undisputed. A fight could now be made. However, it appears that Haney is not interested in fighting for less money, something he has accused Lopez of offering due to his relationship with Top Rank.

“Teo got the nerve to try offer somebody something but he out here begging.. I told that [man] he gone fight for peanuts long as he with bob! I’m making real MONEY,” Haney

“W/ Teofimo! YOU PUNK,” Lopez replied

Lopez’s Problem

Haney has previously said that he wants to fight for the most money, given that he has established his legacy by becoming undisputed. Reports indicated he made $35 million from the Garcia fight. The Dream would find it extremely difficult to fight on a platform for much less money, knowing he can secure those purses . But Lopez is tied down to Top Rank and has previously complained bout not being paid enough. He announced his retirement after beating Josh Taylor to win the WBO belt, saying he would only come back for nine-figure paydays.

“I think the only way you get Teo back is a nine-figure contract deal. Because I’ve made ESPN over a $100 million. I’m still getting paid a million dollars to fight while all these other fighters have not even done a quarter of what I’ve done and accomplished in the sport, they’re getting eight, 10, 12, 15 million dollars. So obviously I’m the black sheep of the industry and they’re really hurting me on that end. I really want to fix the sport of the boxing world and the corruption that’s going on,” Lopez said

Although he returned, he never got those purses. Lopez’s problem is that he fails to sell out. This was shown when he fought Taylor for the WBO belt in his backyard at Madison Square Garden. Haney will likely see himself as the A-side, which will only hinder negotiations.
