Haney Accuses Fighter Of Ducking; Bradley Tells Devin Go Back To Mexico

Devin Haney left a cryptic message, suggesting that a fighter was ducking him.

Haney has not boxed since his no-contest against Ryan Garcia in April. He lost a majority decision, only for it to be overturned once Ryan failed VADA tests for Ostarine. The findings also meant Garcia received a year ban, meaning he cannot box until April 2025. Haney subsequently vacated his WBC Junior Welterweight Title as he took an extended break. It is unclear where his future lies. He has been linked with fights at 140 and 147.

Meanwhile, the Garcia rematch is unlikely for the time being despite Bill Haney’s insistence. During this period, Liam Paro accused Haney of pricing himself out of a fight. But Paro made those comments when he was the IBF Junior Welterweight Champion. Paro has since lost his belt to Richardson Hitchins. Haney is back in training. Now that the dust has settled, he has accused someone of ducking him.

Haney Reacts

Haney’s next fight is critical. He could target a fight against Hitchins at 140 pounds. The latter is seen as one of the weakest champions at 140 pounds since he has only just won the title. Teofimo Lopez, who holds the WBO belt, is likely to face Subriel Matias. Reports indicate a deal is close for February. The WBA belt is held by Jose Valenzuela, who secured a shock win over Isaac Cruz in his last fight. Haney is the Champion in Recess for the WBC belt, which Alberto Puello currently holds. Alternatively, Haney could explore options at 147. He has been linked with a fight against the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios.

What’s Next?

The latter is coming off an unconvincing draw against Abel Ramos. But Barrios has also been linked with Manny Pacquiao. That fight will earn Barrios more money, meaning Haney may have a tough time securing it. Haney’s commercial value has also dropped. After the Garcia fight, he vacated his WBC belt as only Top Rank made a purse bid for his mandatory bout against Sandor Martin. Haney’s leverage has naturally been reduced. While he may argue Garcia was on PEDs, the latter’s social media following still increased after the incident. Tim Bradley has urged Haney to go back to fighting in Mexico to rebuild, while his father was targeting a big 2025.

“Devin Haney, you want to get back? Go back to your roots, bro. Go back to where you started. Where did you start? You started in Mexico. Go back and get one of those guys out of there, man. “Go back there and start there. Get some of that humble pie. Go back to where you started. If you go back to where you started, I’m telling you. You’re coming to come back on top,” Bradley said

“We’re going to start sparring this week and you can expect an announcement soon. He’s doing good. Everything that happens — of course at the end of the fight he said ‘God is the perfect planner’ and truly is. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, he’s been blessed to be the youngest undisputed champion in boxing and also be a promoter,” Bill stated
