Gervonta Davis’ Next Steps Outlined

Stephen Espinoza has opened up on the next steps for Gervonta Davis moving forward.

Following Davis’ release from prison for violating the terms of his house arrest in relation to a hit-and-run incident, the talk turned towards Tank’s next steps.

After all, prior to his incarceration, Tank beat Ryan Garcia in a mega event that sold over a reported $1.2 million in boxing. And in the process of doing so, Davis became the self-professed ‘face of boxing.’

That naturally led to suggestions that he would be targeting the biggest names out there, including Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

Although that may have been the case, Tank’s next opponent is unlikely to be one of the big names. It is understandable that Davis will want to get sharp before facing the big names. And now Espinoza has outlined Gervonta’s next steps.

Espinoza On Davis

“That’s something he definitely wants. I talked to [Gervonta’s trainer] Calvin [Ford]. He’s getting back into it. It depends on where he’s at physically, being out of the gym for a couple of months.

“It does take some adjustments. He’s got to handle some business outside of the ring. His goal is to get back as soon as he can. If we can fit him in before the end of the year, we’ll do that. If not, it’ll be early next year,” Espinoza

Davis’ trainer, Calvin Ford, has hinted at a fight with Isaac Cruz. In their first bout, the pair put on a fight where Cruz went the distance with the knockout artist that is Tank.

Although that may have been the case, there were suggestions that Gervonta had broken his hand during the fight. But in the aftermath, Cruz was praised for managing to hang in there with Tank. But whether they do run it back is anyone’s guess.

Davis Vs. Cruz

“We haven’t really talked about opponents. It’s tough to talk about opponents when you don’t have time yet. I’ve seen the same stuff that you have. [Chris] Colbert or Isacc Cruz. The conversations haven’t really started yet because we got to figure out a date for when he’ll be available on that date. Right now, it’s all speculation. There’s certainly nothing done or anything loosely in place yet,” Espinoza
