Gervonta Davis Eyes Only Mega Fights After Roach; Who's Next?

Stephen Espinoza says Gervonta Davis only plans to box in the mega bouts after his next fight with Lamont Roach Jr

The fight takes place on March 1, as Davis defends his WBA Lightweight Title. He enters the fight with a win against Frank Martin. Tank has said he will retire this year once he has boxed three times. That leaves him with two fights after Roach. Davis has received a lot of criticism for not boxing the big names. Fights against Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney are all big bouts. There is also the chance to face Ryan Garcia in the rematch.

That would require Davis to move up to 140 pounds. Tank has come under fire for not fighting the best.
Meanwhile, his biggest win over Garcia was criticized after it was done at a 136-pound catchweight with a ten-pound rehydration clause. That left Garcia frustrated, who said he was weight-drained. But Espinoza has now said that he expects Tank to only get the big names, meaning Davis would have to make some concessions to make those bouts. This could pose a problem since he is considered the A-side and cash cow in his fights.

Davis’ Next Fight

“He doesn’t want to do anything less than top tier. I think he’s going to insist on a fight like Shakur. Something of that magnitude. Maybe it’s Shakur. Maybe it’s a Ryan Garcia rematch or something like that. I don’t think we’ll see him in anything short of those types of fights moving forward,” Espinoza said

The problem facing Davis is that the other fighters are now making moves themselves. Haney, Garcia, Lopez and Shakur are working closely with the Saudis. Davis does not have the best relationship with them, having criticized fighters for their ties with the Kingdom. Tank has been adamant about making big money by fighting in the US.

“They wanna act like this guy good for boxing when he not good at s###. If so why he not building the people where he from? “This GUY KNOWS S### ABOUT BOXING AT ALL AND THIS WHO THEY TURING TO..ALL D### EATERS. Lol, they have to go over there to make money and still do. I sell where I’m from B####, AMERICA. They be going over there getting their ass kicked fighting in front of a total of 19 people..but becuz they rich it’s cool,” Davis said

But the Saudis are putting on the biggest bouts, something Tank has been accused of avoiding. He may not be the A-side if he were to work with the Kingdom. But before that even is considered, Tank cannot overlook Roach. The latter is the WBA Champion at 130. While he will be moving up, he has shown that he can win a world title. If Davis comes out with a win, as he is expected to do, there will be calls on Davis to make those big bouts.
