Gervonta Davis’ Coach Backs Crawford To Beat Canelo, IBA Secures Huge Funding

Kenny Ellis, Gervonta Davis’ coach, has backed Terence Crawford to beat Canelo Alvarez if they did square off at 168.

Those comments arrived following Bud’s admission that he would be willing to fight Canelo at super middleweight.

This was after Alvarez ruled out the fight after Bud had initially suggested a catchweight at 158. Although that may have been the case, weight classes do exist for a reason.

Therefore, jumping up three weights would undoubtedly be the biggest risk of Crawford’s career. However, Ellis backed Crawford to win due to his superior skill set.

Davis’ Coach

“Crawford can get pretty heavy when he’s not in camp, but if he can condition himself at that weight, I think it’ll be a good fight. I think, technically, he’s got enough tricks to hold his own against Canelo. I think he’ll be alright. Yeah, he’s [Crawford] way better skilled than Canelo. I’m definitely going for him in that fight. It’ll be real technical, though, a real technical fight.

“Yeah, twelve round decision. I don’t think foolish, but I definitely think he’ll [Crawford] get the best end of the stick. He’ll definitely have to work, but he’s a little smarter than Canelo,” Ellis said

IBA’s Funding

The International Boxing Association (IBA) has secured funding for the next four years, allowing the organization to conduct its operations moving forward.

According to reports, the funding will cover events, prize money and its Financial Support Program, as the IBA will continue to work with over 200 National Federations.

In addition, the IBA will continue to allow all participants to compete in Olympic events. Nevertheless, not everyone has been satisfied with the IBA’s approach.

Some national federations have opted to join their competitor World Boxing instead. However, the IBA has responded to that by distancing itself from the organization.

“[World Boxing is a] paper-based entity.  [Numerous National Federations] are simply misled by a group of individuals professing to be a full-scale organization and implying that they have official recognition as an International Federation,” IBA

Crawford And The IBA’s Future

The IBA is crucial for the development of grassroots boxing, so the news here, will be welcomed moving forward. Meanwhile, a Crawford-Canelo bout has already gotten boxing fans thinking of the dream match-up.
