Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson exchanged words, with ‘King Ry’ saying he will put a ‘gap’ in his mouth.

The argument started when Stevenson told Garcia he would “whoop” him, then publicly reminded “King Ryan” of his loss against Rolando Romero in May. Meanwhile, Garcia went directly after Stevenson’s appearance. Stevenson recently underwent dental work to close the gap between his front teeth. Garcia capitalized on the change, telling Stevenson that after he beats him, he’s going to make him look like the extinct “saber, gap-toothed tiger.”

The back-and-forth has set the stage for a potential showdown in the future provided Stevenson gets past Teofimo Lopez on January 31. The WBC recently installed O’Shaquie Foster as Stevenson’s mandatory challenger for his lightweight title, but Stevenson might vacate his WBC belt, which would make any Garcia fight easier to make. The two fighters did not hold back on their verbal sparring.

Interaction

“I will whoop yo a**,” Shakur

“I’ll put that gap right back in that mouth. I’ll have you looking like a sabar, gap-toothed tiger. I’ll do you dirty,” Garcia

“You suck. You lost to Rolly,” Shakur

“I don’t care. Not the same fighter. When I put a beating on you, what are you going to say? When I put a beating on you,” Garcia

“I watched. I was there,” Shakur

“I’m talking about you. You’ve got no power,” Garcia

“You lost, and you’re still scared of him to this day,” Shakur

“No. I’m going to knock that gap right back in your mouth. Bam-bam,” Garcia

Garcia On Shakur’s Next Fight

Despite not being on good terms, Garcia did pick Shakur to beat Lopez. Garcia based his reasoning on the styles of the two fighters. He outlined how Lopez likes to counter his opponents, which will not help him against someone like Shakur, whom he will have to chase. And yet, when it comes to the biggest fights, Lopez has shown he steps up to the plate. He has beaten Vasilily Lomachenko (three-weight world champ) and Josh Taylor (former undisputed junior welterweight champ). And yet, Garcia felt Teo would come up short.

“Shakur [will win]. Just because Teofimo likes to fight people he can counter. With Shakur he has to chase him. It’s not a good style matchup for Teofimo. If Teofimo finds a way then kudos to him. “I don’t see Teofimo being that aggressive. He’s not very aggressive. He’s more of a natural counter-puncher but not an aggressive fighter, but he’ll go get you if he has to,” Garcia said
