Garcia Doesn't Want VADA For Any Haney Rematch

Ryan Garcia does not want VADA testing again for any Devin Haney rematch.

Garcia failed two VADA tests for Ostarine, meaning his win became a no-contest. Ryan disputed the findings, claiming the amount in his system was insufficient to enhance performance. Garcia still ended up getting a year ban, meaning he cannot box until April 2025. But there is still hope a rematch can be made.

A rematch is likely to be bigger, given the narrative that has emerged from the first fight. Haney’s camp maintained that they would win if things were on an even playing field. Meanwhile, Garcia’s camp has reservations about the testing system. This was after Ryan had passed all his tests up until after the fight, when he popped. Some may argue that this was because Garcia may have been caught after slowly dropping a dose. Regardless, Ryan does not want VADA again.

Garcia Reacts

“It’s getting really strange why it’s always VADA. Can we get some other organizations to test. Cause you got Bill [Haney] pushing only VADA. He never says any other organizations, and it’s strange [that] he’s pushing a certain organization. Don’t you just want any kind of testing? All this sounds like the people pushing to use VADA are getting some type of cut money-wise to have people use VADA. Seems unethical. This is just my opinion,” Ryan said

Garcia will have to manage this carefully. His stance will likely rule out a rematch. Haney’s camp will want more concessions, and VADA is the minimum they will feel due to the failed tests. Ryan also has to manage the perception around this stance. It will create the narrative that he has something to hide. Several fighters have denied taking substances, only to then test positive. The failure to provide a defence also showed that Garcia may not have taken enough care.

Haney Responds

These precautions also prevent and deter other fighters from trying to take substances without doing their due diligence. In a sport where fighters can lose their lives, Garcia’s stance may not sit well with those who have suffered on the wrong end of PEDs. Garcia also received a year ban, something which could have been worse. The boxer was arguably lucky not to have gotten a bigger punishment. Lifetime bans were mentioned, while Garcia has a high income to disrupt any losses he may have faced. Haney made his stance on Garcia clear.

“This is my longest time away from the ring. I want to fight anybody. I want to make the biggest fights happen. Sure enough, Haney has bigger plans than some might expect. “I want to be a spokesperson for clean boxing. I’ want to clean up the sport of boxing,” Haney said

“At the end of the day, me being a fighter, I want get-back in the ring. I want to fight him again and I want to win. That’s how I want justice to be done. If he’s clean, yeah. We want to be on an even playing ground, I think that’s important and I’m an advocate for it because I experienced actually being cheated, experienced somebody being on PEDs,” Haney revealed
