The current BMF world champion Justin Gaethje has opened up on the prospect of facing Conor McGregor later down the line.

Gaethje grabbed the title after stopping Dustin Poirier in what was a massive upset. After all, Poirier had stopped Gaethje in their first encounter.

In the aftermath, however, McGregor was very vocal about how he would stop Gaethje. So much so that he vowed to ‘slap’ the champion around the cage.

McGregor On Gaethje

“Justin, I’ll slap you around. I’m the real bmf, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, f*** Chandler, you want it call for it,” McGregor

And yet, McGregor has been away from the sport since 2021. His last fight was a loss against Poirier, as the ‘Notorious’ suffered a broken leg in the aftermath.

Although McGregor has indicated his desire to return to the sport, USADA requires MMA fighters to submit two negative samples over a six-month period before they can compete.

And since McGregor has not done so, a fight with Gaethje is off the table for now. However, that did not prevent the latter from having his say on the matter.

Gaethje On McGregor

“I’d be lying if I’d say I haven’t dreamt of ending his (McGregor’s) career and making sure he’s never able to step back in there. Chandler will now be the second guy that I beat that he chose to fight, and I think that speaks for itself. He won’t fight me. Plain and simple,” Gaethje

Aside form that, Justin also gave his thoughts about the upcoming bout between Islam Makachev and Charles Oliveira that will take place at UFC 294 on October 21st, 2023. The champion Makachev is the favorite to overcome Oliveira even if the latter is on a resurgence.

Regardless of who comes out on top, Gaethje is targeting the winner ahead of Alexander Volkanovski.

“I think Volkanovski had his chance and I think if I didn’t finish Dustin the way I did, then he’d have a better argument because he gave Makhachev such a good fight. But the fact that I knocked out Dustin Poirier, the No. 2 guy in the world, got the BMF title, there’s no doubt I’m next in line for the fight,” Volkanovski
