Frank Warren has teased fans over Tyson Fury’s next fight by confirming that the opponent will surprise people.

The ‘Gypsy King’ has been out of the ring since his win over Derek Chisora. Thereafter, there have been several attempts to secure the WBC champion a fight, all of which failed.

Talks with Oleksandr Usyk over an undisputed fight at Wembley in April broke down, despite the Ukrainian agreeing to take a 70-30 split against him.

Further attempts at a fight with Joe Joyce failed as the latter lost to Zhilei Zhang, as they prepare for their rematch on September 23rd, 2023.

And to top it off, Andy Ruiz Jr. allegedly demanded $20 million, as he priced himself out. And in any event, Ruiz appears likely to face Deontay Wilder

In and amongst this, Fury has been linked with crossover fights involving Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones. Regardless of who the next opponent could be, Warren has promised that it will shock people.

“They’ll be an announcement soon, it will be quite interesting, everybody is going to be quite surprised.’ ‘It’s going to be a game changer. I’m not going to get into that all we are focusing on his next fight at the moment and depending on what date we announce it he may not be available.

“There may not be a December anyway because Amer [Abdallah], who is the Skills Challenge Head of Boxing, he said they were looking to put whatever they are looking to put together in the first quarter of 2024 anyway,” Warren

The announcement will be crucial since the other top heavyweight fighters in the division appear to be tied up.

With Wilder potentially fighting Ruiz, Anthony Joshua may square off against Dillian Whyte and Usyk against Daniel Dubois, the ‘Gypsy King’ must remain active if he is to take on those prime heavyweights moving forward.

But if Fury were to lose his next bout, then the WBC champion would be out of the picture for an undisputed championship fight.

And as Fury’s popularity is not the best at the moment, given the perception that he had ducked Usyk, it is vital that he wins in style against a credible opponent.
