Fury Vs. Usyk Unlikely This Year – Says Simon Jordan

An undisputed heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is less likely to happen in 2023.
That is the view of Simon Jordan. The boxing pundit’s comments are another blow for boxing fans who have been waiting for the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield.
And now the wait could be a little longer. Reports had indicated that Saudi Arabia was keen on having a four-man heavyweight tournament in December involving Fury, Usyk, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.
However, with that, all those fighters are intent on having a run out before then. As of now, only Usyk is confirmed to fight Daniel Dubois, meeting him on August 26th, 2023.
And that has only pushed back the chance for the undisputed fight further.
“I’m being told that there’s no way Tyson Fury’s fighting in Saudi in December. And that there’s a long way between this fight being made.
“I was the one that spoke initially about the principle of the four fighters fighting in this super fight situation in December. There’s no offers been made.
“Now, those offers can be made relatively quickly, but they haven’t been made. Discussions are ongoing, but I’ve been told by relatively reliable sources that this is not happening in December, this will not happen in December,” Jordan
It is unclear if this will have a bearing on a potential Joshua fight with Wilder, given that both fighters have made it clear that they are keen on fighting each other.
Regardless of what the case may be, boxing once again may have to disappoint the fans. This is familiar territory for the fans since they had also seen the breakdown in talks with Wilder and Joshua for a potential undisputed showdown.
During the course of that process, Joshua was the unified heavyweight champion. At the time, Wilder was the WBC heavyweight champion.
Despite a reported $50 million offer being made to Joshua, the fight didn’t materialize over disputes concerning the contract. The rest was history as Joshua lost to Andy Ruiz Jr. Meanwhile, Wilder fought Fury and came up short.
