Fury Vs. Usyk Rematch Date Expected Within A Month - Says Frank Warren

The date for the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk rematch has been set for December 21 by the Saudis.

Usyk came out on top in the first fight to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World via a split decision. The fight turned on its head when Usyk almost stopped Fury in round nine. However, the referee to gave the Gypsy King a standing-eight count. It was Fury’s first loss of his career.

After the fight, Fury controversially claimed he had done enough to win. He also alleged that Usyk was given the decision simply because Ukraine was at war. The Gypsy King indicated his intention to run things back, with Bob Arum revealing that Fury had exercised his rematch clause. The fight was expected to take place by the end of the year or early next year. Warren said that the date would be finalized within around a month. Now, the Saudis are targeting it in December.

Fury vs. Usyk

“The rematch was signed before the first fight took place anyway, and that date will be set within the next month or so, both fighters said they want it and we’ll go from there.” Although his fighter lost, Warren made it clear that Fury-Usyk was a brawl to remember. “It was a fabulous fight,” he told Sky Sports, “two absolute gladiators who didn’t leave anything in the ring in an epic fight in the most important fight of the 21st century…a very, very close fight and I think it will be an even bigger one next time,” Warren said

There are several question marks over the rematch. Under the IBF, Usyk must defend his title against his mandatory, which will be between the winner of Filip Hrgoivc and Daniel Dubois. That means he will likely be stripped if Usyk pursues the Fury rematch instead. Usyk’s team has requested an exception from the IBF, allowing him to keep the belts, hoping that the Fury rematch is undisputed.

If it is not for undisputed, a Fury win will not be as big as what it could have been. There are also doubts about what Fury can do to change the result. He had been training for the Usyk fight since his win over Francis Ngannou. There were multiple fight camps since the Uysk fight was rescheduled. Fury was praised for being in his best condition. And yet, that was not enough to beat Usyk. Warren expects the rematch to be bigger.

Warren’s Expectations

“One thing about it for sure, it was such a good fight, when the rematch happens, I think it will be bigger and better next time. It’s going to be interesting to see what the fight has taken out of both boxers. Because I was in the dressing room with both boxers and you see them — I’ve been doing this for 47 years now.

“I can look at a guy and know how it’s affected him. Especially when fighters get a little bit older, how are they going to be? So especially if the rematch happens, which I believe it will, one of them or both of them will be effected by being in that battle. It was such a battle and it took a lot out of them,” Warren added
