In some top boxing news, the crossover fight featuring Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou flopped, with the PPV numbers falling to hit the heights that may have been expected.

There had been an expectation that the bout would generate a huge interest, given the number of celebrities who were in attendance at the fight.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Kanye West and Eminem were just some of the stars who had turned out. In addition, the trailer for the fight had done over 100 million views, showing that there was a demand to see how the bout would play out.

And when it came to the boxing bout, the fight did not disappoint. Despite making his boxing debut, Ngannou managed to last the full fight against the WBC heavyweight champion of the world.

Fury-Ngannou PPV Numbers

And in the process go doing so, the MMA fighter dropped Fury in the third round as well as managing to take big shots and pushing the Gypsy King on the back foot. And yet, the fight failed to generate the interest that may have been expected.

According to reports, there were 11,500 buys made on US TV through pay-per-view. Meanwhile, there were 56,000 views through ESPN+ PPV.

Nevertheless, that figure may have been expected when we look at the reports that were coming out prior to these figures. Dave Meltzer predicted that the figures were considerably less compared to Jake Paul’s fight with Nate Diaz.

And since that fight allegedly did more than 400,000 PPV buys, the figures naturally painted Fury vs. Ngannou in a negative light.

“Meltzer on Observer Radio – discussing the #FuryNgannou PPV buys: “I will have the exact numbers tomorrow, but they were terrible. Way below an AEW PPV. Possibly 10k for TV orders. I will have the streaming tomorrow. It was nothing close to Canelo or Diaz-Paul buys,” Meltzer

Ngannou’s Payday

Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Both fighters received the biggest paydays of their careers, showing that the event was a success since they are both prize fighters.

And when it came to Ngannou’s manager, Marquel Martin, the latter confirmed that the MMA fighter’s life had been changed by the fight.

“It’s up there. I would say up there. Multiples upon multiples upon multiples [more than the UFC]. I saw a statement, and let me make this clear — someone said, I forget who it was, that, ‘Oh, between the fights that he missed out on or whatever, he still fumbled the bag.’ You’re absolutely incorrect. I know what the pay-per-view numbers look like. I know what he would have gotten paid [in the UFC].

“Still, you add up all of that, whatever you want to say, no, Francis did not fumble the bag. He’s gotten, [with] just that one fight, more than everything he could have made [in the UFC] combined. And then the next fight? To answer your question, like I said, he’ll be able to retire. Like, he’s already at a point where he can retire and be happy,” Martin stated
