Fury Still Denies Losing To Usyk – ‘He Didn’t Beat Me, I Was Lighting Him Up’

Tyson Fury denies losing to Oleksandr Usyk, saying he had done enough to win.
Fury lost the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship as he came out second best in a split decision loss. While that may have been the case, most people in the boxing community perceived Usyk as having won via a unanimous decision. Aside from the middle rounds, Usyk was dominating his opponent. The boxing statistics proved that. Jabbr, an AI live-stats company, showed that Fury landed fewer punches than Usyk even if he threw more. Usyk also landed more high-impact/power punches.
The CompuBox numbers also had Usyk landing 170 punches, while Fury only had 157. This was more than the 127 landed by Otto Wallin on Fury. Fury did connect with more jabs to the body. He had 62 compared to Usyk’s 48. However, Usyk had a better conversion rate at 32.7 percent compared to Fury’s 21.7. Usyk also landed 122 power punches compared to Fury’s 95. When it came to round nine, Usyk almost knocked out Fury. The referee controversially intervened to give Fury a standing eight count just when Usyk was going for the finish. Fury has now said that he believes he won.
Fury Reacts
“I’ve watched the fight back lots and still got the same answer – I thought I won. Usyk knows he didn’t beat me… I thought I boxed the head right off him for most of the rounds. He busted my nose in round eight, got the 10-8 in round nine and I gave him round ten. But other than that I didn’t give him any other rounds.
“It was actually a lot easier than I thought it’d be. People said he’s hard to hit, I was lighting him up with four-punch combinations and laughing at him. My problem was I probably had too much fun. It was too easy. It was like I was in there with a local amateur boxer. I was enjoying it too much, messing around and paid the ultimate price in round nine,” Fury said
Those were the same comments that Fury made after his loss in the post-ring interview. He felt he should have been given the decision. He also claimed that Usyk had only been given the win because of Ukraine’s war with Russia. But the Gypsy King’s condition showed otherwise. Fury wished everyone a happy New Year in the ring despite it only being May. It showed that he had suffered from a serious concussion after having taken many blows to the head.
Fury’s Initial Response
“Oleksandr, I believe I won that fight. I believe he won a few of them, but I won the majority of them. What can you do? It’s one of them things in boxing. His side is at war, so the people are siding with the country at war. Make no mistake, I won the fight in my opinion, and I’ll be back. I’ve got a rematch clause. We run it back in October,” Fury stated
Fury’s team also pushed the narrative that Fury had a broken jaw. Team Usyk has shut that down. The current perception is that Fury is struggling to deal with the loss. He was thrown out of a bar in his hometown of Morecombe for being drunk. Fury was then spotted on his knees on the street, with worries the loss may have impacted his mental health. If he desires to beat Usyk, he must accept the defeat and rectify the loss. But continuing the denial will not help him.
