Fury Praises Joshua’s Contribution To British Boxing

Tyson Fury has praised the role that Anthony Joshua has played, alongside him, in changing the shape of British boxing.

Joshua has long been seen as the cash cow in British boxing, as shown by the mega events that he has put on.

His big fights with Wladimir Klitschko and Oleksandr Usyk had shown that. Although that may have been the case, Joshua does not possess any belts as of now.

And yet, he is still able to command big fights as shown by the links with him facing Deontay Wilder in a super fight in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Fury’s popularity has also grown following his comeback to the sport.

Fury had been absent from the ring since his win over  Wladimir Klitschko after he had suffered from mental health issues and substance abuse problems.

However, he returned to face Wilder in a remarkable trilogy to win the WBC heavyweight title. And looking back, Fury praised Joshua for the role he had also played in bringing back big-time boxing.

“I think we’ve given them [other fighters] a lot to aim for, with me and AJ. “We’ve given them a lot of hope that it can be done. Because before I became world champion, Britain had only had maybe six or five world [heavyweight] champions throughout the history of boxing.

“All of a sudden we had a few more of late. A lot of highly ranked world heavyweights. I think we’ve inspired a lot of people and hopefully they can go on and continue to do well in the division,” Fury

Nevertheless, Fury’s standing has been questioned of late. His failure to secure an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk raised question marks over his motives for fighting. After all, Usyk had accepted a 70-30 split against him.

Not only that, but since Fury has decided to fight a non-boxer in the form of Francis Ngannou in his next fight on October 28th, 2023, the ‘Gypsy King’ has suffered some backlash from the public. And there is no getting away from that.
