Fury Names Wilder As The Hardest Puncher - 'I Was Wobbled'

Tyson Fury has named Deontay Wilder as the biggest puncher he has faced.

Tyson faced Wilder in three fights, making it one of the most captivating trilogies ever. In the first fight, Fury was out-boxing Wilder before things changed in the final round. Wilder landed a massive right hand, sending Fury to the floor. Just as it appeared that the referee may call off the fight, Fury got up from the canvas to finish the fight. In their third fight, Fury was sent to the canvas two times. After all the Wilder fights, Fury admitted that he feared having brain damage. Tyson was also dropped by Francis Ngannou last December in the third round with a left hook. Although he hit the canvas, Wilder was by far the hardest puncher.

Fury On Wilder

“Deontay, by far. Francis Ngannou is a big puncher but I wasn’t really troubled by any of his punches, it wasn’t like dynamite and every time he hit me I was wobbled or anything, it was just one shot to the back of the head and that was it. So Wilder is the biggest puncher I’ve ever been in the ring with by a mile,” Fury said

Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Fury looked his most vulnerable when he boxed Oleksandr Usyk. Before the fight, Fury downplayed the threat from the Ukrainian. He referred to him as a middleweight while also calling him a rabbit. The perception was that Fury would overpower his opponent. But when it came to the fight, it was anything but that.

Usyk dominated the fight, except for the middle rounds, as Fury was out of ideas. The Ukrainian almost stopped Fury in round nine, only for the referee to give a controversial standing eight count. Although Fury recovered to finish the fight, there was an argument that the fight should have been stopped. In his post-fight comments, Fury even showed signs he had been concussed.

Fury Vs. Usyk

He wished everyone a Happy New Year, even though it was only May. Fury may have to change his tactics in their December 21 rematch. The Gypsy King could choose to fight on the front foot, meaning he would have to let his hands go. But that plays into Usyk’s hands, as the Ukrainian is an expert counter-puncher. Jake Paul admitted that Fury may have to become more aggressive to give himself a chance of winning.

“It’s going to be tough man. For sure [I had Usyk winning]. It was a very close fight, the last round is what swung it I believe,” he said. “But Tyson does what Tyson does in rematches with a chip on his shoulder. “He’s going to come back harder than ever but so will Usyk. It is going to be another close fight I believe. Tyson just needs to let his hands go. [In the later rounds] he just stopped,” Paul stated

It is a career-defining fight, as it remains to be seen if Fury can recover from a loss.
