Fury Launches Verbal Assault On Usyk – ‘You Hit Me With 10 Shots, Couldn’t Knock Me Out’
Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury held another roundtable face-off ahead of their rematch on December 21.
Usyk defeated Fury in the first fight to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion via a split decision. Most of the boxing community had Usyk winning via a unanimous decision. However, Fury doubled down on his view that he had won the fight, controversially claiming that Usyk was only given the decision because of Russia’s war with Ukraine. It was the first loss of Fury’s career, as there were question marks over whether he would be able to bounce back.
Usyk And Fury
After having rewatched the fight, he doubled down on his comments that he had won. He called Usyk an amateur boxer. He was also spotted getting thrown out of a club in his hometown of Morecambe after he was drunk, suggesting he was struggling to accept the defeat. Since then, Fury has paid his respect to Usyk, stating that he was the better man. The Ukrainian knows that another win will increase the calls on him to retire, as the 37-year-old has already won everything in boxing. He has a glittering amateur career and an Olympic gold medal.
He has become undisputed at cruiserweight and heavyweight, making him only one of the few fighters in the four-belt era to be undisputed in two weight classes. The perception is that Fury will come in heavier for the rematch, as he may attempt to overpower Usyk, much like he did against Deontay Wilder. However, the problem is that Anthony Joshua failed to do something similar against Usyk in two of their fights. There is also an argument that Usyk has now shared 12 rounds with Fury as he will be better prepared for the rematch. Both fighters were confident ahead of the clash, as they had plenty to say.
Usyk Vs. Fury Roundtable
“My hands [were raised] I won. Thank you, God. But if Tyson thinks that Tyson won, No problem for me. No problem. Listen, we have one more fight 21st December,” Usyk
“Regardless of the decision, I’ve said this many, many times, he got the W. Fantastic for him and his family. Well done. Congratulations. Like I said, God gave him the result,” Fury
“[Usyk] could have punched me with that punch [left hand in round nine] a million times. It may not have had any effect, but, you know, he punched me and it had an effect, and that was great. Great for him,” Fury
“You had your little chance to knock me out, but you didn’t you? You hit me with 10 shots, 10 clean shots on the chin. Like 2pac said, You hit me with your best shots and couldn’t do it,” Fury
“It was a fantastic training camp. Never once have I ever said I had any problems in camp because I didn’t. I’ve heard a lot of talking. I had a lot of problems in camp, but I didn’t have any problems. I had a fantastic training camp. He beat me fair and square. Give the man his props. I don’t understand why people have got an excuse,” Fury
“No, I say don’t run. Don’t be afraid. I will not leave you alone again,” Usyk
“Tyson knows what I do. I know what Tyson does, but it will be a different fight,” Usyk
