Fury Criticizes Usyk’s Lack Of Talking During Their Press Conference

Tyson Fury revealed that he was disappointed by the failure of Oleksandr Usyk to engage in verbal shots against him during their first presser.

The ‘Gypsy King’ attempted to get inside the head of Usyk by taunting the Ukrainian, and vowing to stop him when they face off in the ring.

Despite this being the case, the unified heavyweight champion remained composed. Meanwhile, the fact that the Ukrainian required a translator also prevented the conversation from flowing.

And yet, this should not come as a surprise given Fury’s history of promoting boxing fights. The WBC heavyweight champion infamously dressed up as ‘Batman’ during the Wladimir Klitschko fight.

Not only that, but the Deontay Wilder fights had shown that Fury was able to get inside his opponents head. In the aftermath of the losses, the ‘Bronze Bomber’ made a series of claims against Fury that were not proven.

This included allegations that Fury had been tampering with his gloves, his walk out costume being too heavy, as well as having his water spiked. With that being said, this is what Fury had to say about the presser.

Fury On Usyk

“It’s not an exchange when I shout something to somebody, and they don’t say anything. What do you call that? Probably an onslaught. There was no return fire. I’ll tell you what it’s like. Me on my own at the press conference. I just did a round table with him. How are you going to get banter up with a man who doesn’t speak English? He understands only 10% of what I say. He has to translate backward and forwards. It’s pointless, but it’s not a talking competition, is it? Obviously, we’re not here to talk. Maybe we should just stay quiet and say nothing. Just give him a boxing lesson. Anyway, I want to win this fight, I can win it,” Fury stated

Despite this being the case, Usyk had a light-hearted approach to it all. The Ukrainian’s mindset had shown that he was fully focused on the task ahead, as he refused to be drawn into Fury’s mind games.

That admission may prove key, given that Fury does have the advantage of getting into his opponents heads. In response, this is what Usyk had to say.

Usyk Responds

“No. For me, it’s a lot of speak like a talking hat. Blah blah blah blah blah blah. The man behaves like that when he is afraid and doesn’t feel comfortable or when he isn’t sure about anything,” Usyk

Ultimately, it will all come down to what the fighters produce on fight night. And given that both fighters are undefeated, one boxer will come up short in the biggest fight of this era.

And the victor will likely walk away from the sport, given that there will be nothing else to prove. Usyk would become a two-weight undisputed champion. Meanwhile, Fury would achieve the feat for the first time of his career.
