Fury Could Return – ‘He Might Be Getting Bored’
Tyson Fury’s manager Spencer Brown’s following comments hint the Gypsy King may come out of retirement.
Fury announced his retirement from the sport following his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk. The two defeats prevented him from becoming the undisputed and unified heavyweight champion.
“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up,” Fury said
There was an expectation that Fury would face off against Anthony Joshua, which was the biggest fight available. They had previously agreed on a deal to fight, only for Fury to pull out after Deontay Wilder won an arbitration case, meaning the Gypsy King had to take the rematch. Fury has achieved over $100 million for the two Usyk fights, meaning he is in no hurry to return. He also took a lot of punishment from the three Deontay Wilder fights, having previously said he felt he could have had brain damage.
However, Fury has previously retired before, only to return. He did this when he knocked out Dillian Whyte, only to then come back for the Usyk fights. This has created the narrative that Fury is using this as a tactic to secure him the biggest purse. The Joshua fight would likely sell out in both the UK and the Saudis, meaning there are potentially two fights on the table.
Will Fury Return?
The Saudis have expressed their desire to make Fury vs. Joshua, meaning there is demand to see it. Fury is known for ballooning up in weight during his absence from fights. That has been one of the criticisms that has been levelled against him, which may have reduced his longevity. However, this time, Brown revealed that things appear different. He admitted that Fury was on a diet, stating that he had become a little bored.
“I spoke to him last week, he’s really happy. Really happy. He’s getting a little bit bored but he was really happy. I think he went to a nice birthday party over the weekend and had a few beers. Just speaking to him gives you a bit of light in your life because he makes you smile and he doesn’t anything too seriously. “Is he going to fight again? He’s retired. He might be getting a little bit bored at the moment but that’s just a natural thing.
“He’s just enjoying himself, he’s running everyday. He’s really looking good. [And] he’s tanned, he’s fit. He looks good. I was quite surprised when I saw him. He’s usually eating Jelly Babies and sweets but this time none of that. He’s proper on his diet. But if not God bless him, he’s earned what he’s got. I believe there is the potential for it. What happens nobody knows. Tyson has done shocking things before, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did it again,” Brown stated
