Fury Could Retire – Says Carl Froch

Carl Froch has predicted that Tyson Fury could end up retiring as the WBC heavyweight champion has not had a fight since his win over Derek Chisora in December.

The ‘Gypsy King’ has long been linked with an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk. However, talks broke down over a fight in April at Wembley despite the Ukrainian accepting a 70-30 split.

Meanwhile, talks over a fight in Saudi Arabia appear no closer given that an official offer has not been made. Instead, Frank Warren has confirmed that Fury’s next fight will be a ‘game changer.’

This has led to speculation that Fury could be facing an MMA fighter after having been linked with Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones.

With that being said, Froch was adamant that Fury could be hanging his gloves up very soon.

“I think Tyson Fury has one eye on retirement. I think he’s had enough. He’s a big lad that’s got a bit of fat around him and everybody knows that he’s a bit out of shape in between fights.

“People blame it on the promoters, blame it on the television networks, but if the fighters want to fight, then the fight can be made,” Froch stated

If Fury did walk away from the sport without fighting Usyk, and Joshua, there would be question marks over his legacy.

Aside from the Deontay Wilder fights and his bout with Wladimir Klitschko, Fury has not fought the best in his era.

Usyk is the current unified heavyweight champion, who was undisputed at cruiserweight. Not only that, but the Ukrainian is also undefeated.

And yet, given that Fury had to overcome mental health problems and alcohol issues to make his comeback, the ‘Gypsy King’s standing has increased with that.

Nevertheless, if Fury has no intention of making the undisputed fight happen, there could be calls for him to vacate the belt in order to allow the other heavyweights to make it happen.

With that being said, Fury’s next steps will be crucial for his career moving forward.
