Fundora Still Wants The Spence And Crawford Fights

Sebastian Fundora still has eyes on the big fights against Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford.
Fundora faces Chordale Booker next in a defense of his WBC and WBO Junior Middleweight Clash on March 22. Fundora puts his belts on the line for the first time, having won them from Tim Tzsyu. He defeated Tsyzu via a split decision to give the Australian his first loss. There were links with a rematch, but it never happened as Tszyu moved on. Errol Spence Jr. also wanted the Fundora fight, as he jumped in the ring to call for it. However, Spence has not returned to boxing as Booker got his shot.
Booker defeated Brian Damian Chaves in his last fight via a third-round stoppage to secure the title shot. He also fights from the southpaw stance, as questions remain over which fighter can establish their game plan. Booker has four knockouts from his previous five fights. He is also an ex-USA National Championships winner, having not lost since his 2022 defeat to Austin Williams.
Fundora, though, still wants the Spence fight. It will offer him his biggest payday. Spence has not been in the ring since Crawford knocked him out in 2023. He was dropped three times on his way to a ninth-round stoppage defeat. Spence underwent cataract surgery on his right eye, while his trainer, Derrick James, also parted ways. James later sued Spence for unpaid wages following the Crawford fight, as they parted on bad terms.
Fundora Reacts
As for Crawford, he is preparing for a Canelo Alvarez fight in September. Bud will jump up two weight classes to try and become a five-weight champion. A fight against Fundora is unlikely since Crawford would have to come back down to 154. However, if it were for undisputed, then that could change things. Fundora had eyes on the major fights moving forward. However, he cannot afford to overlook Booker who is the immediate focus this weekend.
“Things change all the time. Opponents fall through. Events fall through. With Booker, we’ve been training hard to have our first defense of our titles. I was ready to fight Spence last year but they kept switching the dates. [And] I don’t know what happened with Spence. I can’t speak on his behalf. But we were ready to fight and the dates kept changing for whatever reason. I was training since May for whatever was to come.
“It didn’t happen, but here we are now. I am ready. I have to do what I always do – win and put on a great performance [against Booker] and do my job like always. Those are big fights [against Spence and Crawford] and those doors are always open. I’d love to fight either of them. This division is very stacked. We have lots of talent and you’ll see it March 22 with my fight. I’m excited for whoever I have to fight next as well,” Fundora said
