Professional Career

Sivenathi Nontshinga, known for his power and determination, began his professional boxing career with a series of impressive victories in his native South Africa. He made his debut on July 30, 2017, at the Orient Theatre in East London, where he secured a third-round TKO against Sandile Wessels. This victory set the tone for his early career, which saw him quickly rise through the ranks with a succession of knockouts and technical knockouts.

By the end of 2018, Nontshinga had already amassed a perfect record, culminating in a TKO victory over Tisetso Modisadife on October 21, 2018, to claim the vacant African light-flyweight title. He continued to defend his titles effectively, showcasing his dominance in the ring. Notable defenses include a first-round KO against Adam Yahaya on April 7, 2019, and a ninth-round TKO over Siyabonga Siyo on July 28, 2019, both of which were held at the Orient Theatre in East London, a venue that became synonymous with his early career success.

Nontshinga’s international breakthrough came on September 3, 2022, when he traveled to Hermosillo, Mexico, to face Hector Flores for the vacant IBF light-flyweight title. In a hard-fought battle, Nontshinga emerged victorious with a split decision, proving his mettle on the global stage. He solidified his status as a world champion by defending his title against Regie Suganob on July 2, 2023, at the International Convention Centre in East London, winning by unanimous decision.

However, Nontshinga faced a setback on November 4, 2023, when he lost his IBF light-flyweight title to Adrian Curiel by a second-round KO in Monte Carlo. This defeat was a significant challenge, but Nontshinga’s resilience shone through. On February 16, 2024, he reclaimed his title in a thrilling rematch against Curiel in Oaxaca City, Mexico, winning by TKO in the tenth round.
