Biography

Professional Career

 

Seiya Tsutsumi began his professional boxing career on March 27, 2018, with a first-round knockout victory over Alongkon Kaisi at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. This debut showcased his power and potential, setting the stage for a promising career. Tsutsumi continued to build his record with another first-round knockout win against Yutthana Narkprasert on June 17, 2018, in Bangkok, Thailand, winning the B Class Tournament 2018 Bantamweight Final. On September 4, 2018, Tsutsumi further demonstrated his prowess with a first-round TKO victory over Junpei Inamoto at Korakuen Hall. He followed this with a unanimous decision win against Jiaqi Yu on October 14, 2018, at the Xiedao Hotel in Beijing, China. These victories solidified his reputation as a formidable contender in the bantamweight division.

 

A notable bout in Tsutsumi’s early career was against Ryan Rey Ponteras on August 26, 2019, at the City Sogo Gym in Kōshi, Japan, where he won by TKO in the first round. This win was followed by a majority draw against Kazuki Nakajima on January 28, 2020, in the GOD’S LEFT Bantamweight Tournament Final at Korakuen Hall. Another majority draw against Daigo Higa on October 26, 2020, showcased Tsutsumi’s resilience and ability to compete at high levels. On June 23, 2022, Tsutsumi won the Japanese bantamweight title with an eighth-round TKO victory over Kyosuke Sawada at Korakuen Hall. He successfully defended this title against Kenshin Oshima on October 26, 2022, and Jin Minamide on March 20, 2023, both by TKO in the ninth round. These defenses demonstrated his dominance in the division and solidified his status as a top contender.

 

Tsutsumi continued his title defenses with a unanimous decision victory over Riku Masuda on August 30, 2023, at Korakuen Hall. His most recent bout on December 26, 2023, saw him defend his Japanese bantamweight title against Kazuki Anaguchi at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. Tsutsumi won by unanimous decision, but the bout was marred by tragedy as Anaguchi was rushed to the hospital and passed away six weeks later from a subdural hematoma.
