Jaime Munguia’s professional journey began in 2013, culminating in his remarkable rise to prominence. He captured the WBO junior middleweight title on May 12, 2018, with a victory over Sadam Ali. Munguia’s first title defense against Liam Smith in July 2018 resulted in a resounding unanimous decision win.
Continuing his dominance, Munguia defended his title with a third-round technical knockout against Brandon Cook in September 2018. However, controversy arose in April 2019 when he faced Dennis Hogan, securing a majority decision victory in a contentious bout.
Undeterred, Munguia showcased his prowess by defending his title against Patrick Allotey in September 2019, winning by fourth-round technical knockout. Transitioning to middleweight, he triumphed over Gary O’Sullivan in January 2020 with an eleventh-round technical knockout in his debut.
In October 2020, Munguia faced Tureano Johnson, earning a victory via doctor’s stoppage in the sixth round. This victory also secured him the WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title. He continued his winning streak with a sixth-round corner retirement win against Kamil Szeremeta in June 2021.
